ELPAC Writing Tasks
2020-2021 ELPAC summative data shows that many of our English Learners are struggling to reach well developed in writing. Please ensure that you are aware of the writing task types on the ELPAC and are incorporating them during dELD and iELD.. Through practice and guided writing instruction, our English Learners will show an increase in English proficiency in writing. To find the different task types in writing, look at the ELPAC Domain Information Document (D.I.D) for your grade level in Malabar Schoology group in the ELD folder. Additional ELPAC resources can also be found in the ELD folder. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need further assistance.
2021-2022 SPSA Measurable Goal
By June 2022, English Learners scoring proficient (Overall Level 4) on ELPAC will increase from 7% to 30% as measured by the Summative ELPAC assessment.

Hello all! This is the YouTube video on Teaching Students to Prove Their Mathematical Thinking through Questions, Charts, and Discourse. Teaching students to talk about solving problems and the process of justifying their mathematical proofs is a powerful method of bringing about critical thinking and reasoning.

Notes from our STEAM Coach-Angela Muro
Hello all, I hope you had a great week! As I’ve popped into different classrooms either to demo a lesson or cover while the teacher is out, I’ve noticed many of you are using the pre-printed resources that are available in your Amplify tubs to build interactive bulletin boards. Kudos to you! I will be sharing some links and other resources to support your STEAM implementation. After looking at the data from the STEAM survey, we found that many of you would like to better understand phenomena and its role in our STEAM instructional units. I am sharing a link to a short (8 min.) You Tube video that explains how the NGSS is built around phenomena and sense-building. Please take some time to view this video if you can. Paul Anderson is a high-school science teacher and guru that has created several videos on anything NGSS. He has many videos on his You Tube Channel, Bozeman Science. Here is the link to the phenomena video: https://youtu.be/3ps3Js-psgo
As always, if you have any questions or need help, shoot me an email or come by Room 5.

Updated CFA Blueprints
The Edulastic CFA Revised blueprints are now available. i In addition this year schools and grade levels are able to choose between CFA 1 or CFA 2 in the first two testing windows.
Please see a list of some of the improvements made below:
· An introduction to the grade level blueprint and how it can be used along with supporting links.
· Blueprints come in grade level specific documents and include all CFAs for the entire year in one document
· For Grade K-6 includes color-coding of the standards to indicate the type of cluster (major, supporting, or additional) and also a direct link to the standard.
· New columns in each document include what unit in Illustrative Math or Eureka Math that standard is taught.
· Links to Illustrative Math and Eureka Math Standards Alignment documents for each grade at the top of the column.
· Most importantly, these new and improved blueprints include the recommendations from the LAUSD Elementary Math Coordinators for which CFA to administer depending on whether you teach using Illustrative Math or Eureka Math for all three testing windows.
Please read the blueprint documents carefully with your grade level colleagues. Attached is the link and here is the link to the revised blueprints by grade level: https://bit.ly/LAUSDElemMathCFABlueprints2021-2022
Focus on Classroom Observations-Standard 3: Delivery of Instruction
I we visit classrooms, we will be focusing on the following two elements:
3b2. Discussion Techniques and Student Participation Techniques are used to ensure that all students share their thinking around challenging questionsEffective Practice: Teacher uses intentional, differentiated strategies to engage all students in discussion, attempting gradual release from teacher-directed to student initiated conversation. Students participate in intellectually challenging discussions.
3c1. Standards-Based Projects, Activities and Assignments Standards-aligned learning activities cognitively engage students in the lesson
Effective Practice: Instructional projects, activities and assignments are aligned to the instructional standards, require higher levels of thinking, are culturally relevant, and may include real-world application. Most students are cognitively engaged, constructing their own understanding and exploring content. The learning activities are differentiated, as necessary, to meet the learning needs of student subgroups.
Focus for Next Week
This week, we will focus on ELD Integrated and Designated observations for all grade level. We look forward to observing discourse in the classroom.
