Final Assessment (Jay Gatsby)

American Dream
I think Gatsby's American Dream was to become rich and find love. He later became rich.
Evidence
"His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people- his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all."
Gatsby did achieve being rich, but he found love, but he was being used. He was later killed.
American Dream Today
The American dream is real, because many people have succeeded in their dream. Such as Dolly Parton she was a poor girl and she wanted to be a singer when she grew up. Now she is one of America's most known female country singer.
Theme
Using people doesn't always get what you want, and it doesn't always end well. For example, Daisy used people and it didn't get her very far and she wasn't happy.
After Gatsby was killed she went right back to Tom.
"They were careless people Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made...."
Meaning; after Gatsby was shot, she picked up the pieces, moved on, and went back to Tom as if Gatsby never existed. Her love for wasn't real she was just pretending that she was in love with him, she was using him for his money along with Tom.
