5Essentials Parent Survey
We would like your input and feedback!
To help guide our school improvement efforts, please take the 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your anonymous feedback. As a parent, your voice is essential to help us guide our school improvement process at JJHS. We will also administer this survey to all of our students in the near future. The purpose of this online survey is to understand parent/guardian perceptions in the areas of connectedness, satisfaction, interaction, involvement, and quality.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education.
The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20% of parents take the survey. Currently, 17% of our families have completed the survey.
If you have students attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school. All survey responses will be kept confidential.
To take this short survey:
- Visit Parent Survey Illinois 5Essentials: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
- Select “DuPage” as the County.
- Type the school's name into the school field and then select your school.
Thank you in advance for your participation to support our schools' continuous improvement process!
IAR Testing
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) standardized test will be administered Monday, March 4th Tuesday March 5th, and Wednesday March 6th. Please ensure your child is in attendance those school days to minimize make up testing.
Students will need a fully charged Chromebook, a writing utensil, and a free reading book during testing days. They also need wired headphones, as any sort of Bluetooth device will not work the testing platform.
Please help your child to do their best by encouraging them to get a good night sleep and eating some breakfast the morning of testing.
Students are not permitted to have their cell phone or smart watches in the classrooms during testing.
Thank you for your support!

JJHS Students, Teachers and Staff Honor Black History Month
On Friday, February 23rd, the entire school community, including students, teachers, and staff, came together adorned in attire celebrating Black History Month.
The morning began with a stirring rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," honoring the profound significance of the Black National Anthem. Additionally, we played music throughout the day performed and created by renowned black artists.
In February, our school has been uplifted by the sharing of stories and lessons, as both staff and students have passionately read aloud, shining a spotlight on the impactful contributions of influential African Americans. These narratives have inspired and enriched us all.
ORAL HEALTH = GOOD OVERALL HEALTH
Parents play an important role in guiding kids’ good oral hygiene habits that help keep the rest of their body healthy too. Make it a habit to practice good oral hygiene.
Brush twice daily for 2 minutes and floss.
Drink water out of the tap (fluorinated to help strengthen and protect teeth)
Visit your dentist every 6 months for a professional cleaning, exam and x-rays.
Limit intake of sugar-filled sodas, sweetened fruit and sport drinks and other unhealthy snacks which cause tooth decay and have little nutritional value.
Your child’s first dental visit should be at 1-year-old.
To help promote good oral health, all 6th graders are required to have a Dental Exam. All forms are due to the Health Office by May 15th.

Donate Your Old Instruments to Support Our Band Program!
Health Office News
Dear Jefferson Families,
As we continue to strive for excellence in our junior high band program, we are reaching out to our community for support. Many of you may have instruments lying around at home that are no longer being used by your children who have moved on from band.
We are kindly asking for your help in donating any old band instruments that are no longer in use to our band program. Your generosity could make a huge difference in the lives of current and future band students.
Donated instruments will be refurbished and put to good use by budding musicians who may not have the means to purchase or rent instruments of their own. Your donation could help unlock the musical potential of a student and enrich our band program for years to come.
Whether it's a trumpet, clarinet, flute, saxophone, or any other band instrument, your contribution will be greatly appreciated and put to good use.
If you have any instruments to donate or if you have any questions about the donation process, please feel free to contact us at cwerve@naperville203.org.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to explore and excel in music.
Warm regards,
Chris Werve and Renee Howe
