MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear CHE Families:
What is there not to love about February?!? The days are getting longer; the month is shorter, although this year has an extra “leap” day snuck in there; daffodils begin to break through the soil; and we celebrate Valentine’s Day. Our amazing PTA is helping students to celebrate Valentine’s Day in your student’s classroom with Friendship Grams, which students will receive on February 14.
Things are starting to come together with the construction of the new Crescent Harbor Elementary School. There is a new Construction Page on the school district’s web page where you can find information and updates regarding the construction project. Check it out to see pictures, timelines, and more information about the new school. I want to share a few highlights with you:
Construction fences will start going up this May to separate the work site from our school setting.
The finishing touches on the building will take place in December of 2025, and we anticipate having students start in the school in January of 2026.
Demolition of the existing school and completion of the parking lot will occur during the spring of 2026, and most signs of construction should be gone by the fall of 2026.
This is all very exciting for our students and community.
Here are a couple of other important events for February. Parent-teacher conferences are February 8-9. Look for information to sign up for a conference time with your student’s teacher. Maintaining ongoing communication between families and teachers is so important for student success, so I hope you will make time for a conference.
The Winter Book Fair begins February 1 and runs through February 9. Students will have a chance to put together a wish list, and parents can come in during conferences to buy books and other fun items for deserving students. There is no better way to encourage a love of reading than to have new books to read every once in a while.
Happy February,
Bill Weinsheimer
Principal
NURSE NOTES
KEEPING KIDS HYDRATED
February is American Heart Month and National Wear Red Day (February 2nd)
The American Heart Association suggests a few tips for helping keep kids heart-healthy:
Schedule family time for physical activity. Weather permitting, go outdoors for a walk, a hike, or even just some backyard games. Indoor activities can incorporate active screen time, like playing a dance-off or interactive sports video game.
Plan a weekly menu and prep your meals. Encourage kids to help with meal planning and even grocery shopping. Make sure you have on-hand foods they will eat that are also healthy for them. Taking the time to prepare for the week ahead – even cutting up fruits and veggies for healthy snacks – can help improve overall diets.
Simplify your family’s schedule. In today’s society, we’re expected to do it all. But this type of non-stop lifestyle isn’t sustainable or healthy. Try prioritizing your activities and see what you can do without so you’ll have more time for the things that matter. You can also work on ways to manage stress.
Set a regular bedtime – and wake-up time. Develop bedtime routines to wind down after a busy day. While it may be unrealistic to expect older kids to turn in early, have them turn off their phones and other devices before bedtime. Encourage them to develop their rituals for a good night’s sleep – and trying to catch up on the weekends doesn’t count.
Live by example. Be a role model for healthy behaviors. It doesn’t mean you have to change everything at once, set goals and take baby steps. Teaching your kids about heart health now will help them live longer, healthier lives for their future.

CHE MATH NIGHT, FEBRUARY 1ST 5-7PM
PE NEWS
We made it past the holidays and back to regularly scheduled events for P.E. I want to remind kids and parents if you bring a sweatshirt or coat to the gym for P.E. Be sure to take your sweatshirt or coat back to class with you. During the winter we are using the climbing wall, starting jump rope, gymnastics, and cooperative games. As the days get longer try and get outside and be active too. Easy outside activities are walking with family, short jogging, riding bikes going to City Beach or Fort Nugent, and playing.
See you in the Gym

HELP US COLLECT HYGIENE ITEMS FOR THE HELP HOUSE!!
We are collecting items to make hygiene kits for Help House. If you have any travel-size shampoos, conditioners, or soaps that you would like to get rid of, please send them our way. We have collection bins by the office and outside of our classrooms. We are also collecting socks, tissues, antibacterial wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, lip balms, bandages, and anything else you think would be helpful. We love having our students help in the community. This is a great way for them to learn how to be good citizens. Please consider donating!

- I served our country in the US Navy for 21 1/2 years. I was able to travel and see many parts of the world. I was stationed in Whidbey Island twice, as a Black Raven. We loved the island's access to the outdoor adventures so much that once I retired we decided to move back.
- I would consider myself a soccer fanatic. I have three boys who all play competitive soccer, when time permits I too get on the pitch and play. I coached soccer for many years. My team is the Los Angels Futball Club (LAFC).
- My entire family enjoys the outdoors. We mostly concentrate on dirt biking, mountain biking, and snowboarding.
Mr. Burress - Life Skills Teacher

- I used to go to San Francisco Giants games and San Jose Sharks games all the time.
- If I could live in another country I would choose Ireland.
