The Johnson Journal
Week of September 21st
What are we Learning?
- Science: We are beginning to cover WINDS... Please have your students create and study their flash cards for winds for the week. The words can be found on their homework packet, and the definitions can be found in their Interactive Glossary on Discovery Education! There will be a quiz on Winds on Friday!
- Reading: We are working in book clubs, and will be exploring Theme this week. Ask your child what book they are reading, and make sure they can tell you what Theme is. We will quiz on Theme on Friday!
- Math: We have finished in class with Place Value and Multiplying and Dividing by Powers of Ten, but this can and still needs to be practiced on Study Island and in TenMarks. We are moving into Comparing and Rounding Decimals, and should be finished with that by the end of the week, taking a quiz on that Friday as well.
Important Information to Know
- I understand that the Science homework has been difficult, so I am changing it up a bit: I am sending home the vocabulary words for the week, expecting students to create flash cards and learn these words for our quiz on Friday.
- With Wordly Wise, students should be downloading their words from Blackboard on Fridays when they get their new homework packets. If not, it can be found in Blackboard under their ELA class. A quizlet can also be found to practice their week's words each week in this section as well.
- With TenMarks and IXL, I am giving enough time in class for them to complete these that they should not have to be completed for homework. If they are not getting finished by the end of the week, that is when they become homework, to be finished by Friday.
- Our Fall Festival is coming up in a few weeks! We will be teaming up with another 5th grade class to create a basket to be raffled off at the Festival. I will let you know as soon as I know what our basket's theme is, so you can start sending in donations to help us create an awesome basket!
- Please continue to check your child's behavior cards and grades often. Let me know if you have any questions about their grades or behaviors!
