A Note from the Principal
The year is rapidly coming to an end and we have lots of fantastic lessons and extra curricula activities planned. We are getting closer and closer to finalising our staffing structure for 2019. On Friday 14 December the students will be notified of their teacher and classmates for 2019. Our transition for the next two Fridays will be students moving to the next year level with 2018 teachers.
With the year coming quickly to an end I thought it would be helpful for families to have the dates we already know.

• Term 2: 23 April to 28 June

Navigating through primary school can be a challenge for some students. At all schools, classrooms are made up of wide and varied personalities with differing social, emotional, educational and physical needs. Currently students participate in a number of programs that are designed to build student resilience, provide students with coping strategies and to build a community that support and care for one another.
Growth Mindset
This approach has been introduced into the Year 5/6 area this year and will be introduced across the whole school in 2019.
Growth mindset is the belief that you can develop your talents and abilities through hard work, good strategies, and help from others. It stands in opposition to a fixed mindset, which is the belief that talents and abilities are unalterable traits, ones that can never be improved.
Berry Street
We have had two teachers participate in the Berry Street Education Model training and plan to introduce this approach across the school in 2019.
Berry Street Education Model is a program that enables teachers to increase engagement with challenging students and successfully improve all students’ self-regulation, growth and academic achievement.
Rock and Water
Each class across the school participate in a Rock and Water session each week.
The Rock and Water program is a series of lessons and activities that provide young people a pathway to self-awareness and increased self-confidence and social functioning.
The following programs are currently being researched by staff to determine the one that will best address the needs of our great school in order to make it even greater.
- Friendly Schools and Families
The Friendly Schools and Families research has been recognised nationally and internationally as a successful evidence based bullying prevention program. This program comprises whole-school (including family) learning and teaching strategies, resources and case studies from Australian Schools. The comprehensive whole-school program, designed to maximise family involvement, has been found to significantly reduce bullying within the school setting.
- Bulling No way
Bullying no Way is a website with resources, information and ideas for schools, students and parents around dealing with bullying and inappropriate behaviours.
- Alannah and Madeline Foundation
The key objectives of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation is to care for students who have experienced or witnessed serious violence, reduce the incidence of bullying, cyber bullying and other cyber risks and advocate for the safety and wellbeing of children.
