DYI Dolphin Report
March 17, 2024
A Message from the Principals
Happy St. Patrick's Day! ☘️🍀 We hope you enjoyed the day and maybe took part in some celebrations throughout our community. The last two Fridays have been spirit days at DY Intermediate and we have another spirit day on Thursday, March 21. Please look below for more information and plan to wear some silly socks or blue and yellow on Thursday. Highlighted below is our music program. As you are aware, we have added two new staff members to our Fine Arts Department and we are excited they are working with your children. Also exciting was the Honor Band who was able to play at the Providence Bruins. This was the largest group we have ever brought to the game. Mrs. Capparella was very excited for their great performance.
While it has not been sent out yet, please be on the lookout for the final round of After School Activities. We are currently putting the schedule together. The last round begins April 1 which means the opportunity to sign up will be soon. Please do not ignore that important Remind message. Lastly, congratulations to Jack and his fantastic gallon bot who are pictured below. Conversions are often a tricky standard to learn in Math class and the gallon bot will help us visualize some conversions.
Sincerely,
Mr. Blake, Dr. Greeson, and Mrs. Cleary
5th Grade Happenings
In math, fifth graders are wrapping up work with decimals and moving on to geometry.
In science, fifth graders finished up their space unit by visiting the science lab with Mr. Spanish. Students investigated how gravity works both on Earth and in space.
Music Happenings
DYI Musicians have been busy singing, practicing reading rhythms, and learning folk dances. One dance grade 4 students worked on is Alabama Gal, and in grade 5 students dance to Irish Washerwoman.
Orchestra Happenings
The DY Intermediate Orchestra students have been hard at work to prepare for our first concert of the school year in June! Here is a sneak peak at our 5th grade low string section practicing ‘Cripple Creek.’ And some 4th grade violins working hard on their new piece, ‘French Folk Song.’ We can’t wait to perform for you all in June!
Band Happenings
Congratulations to the D.Y.I.S. Honor Band for the wonderful job everyone did performing at the Providence Bruins annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Sunday March 10th!
The Honor Band looked fantastic dressed in Bruins colors and showing their D-Y Dolphin spirit and enthusiasm!
The Honor Band played classic songs such as WE WILL ROCK YOU, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, LOUIE, LOUIE, as well as top hits such as JUST DANCE, THUNDER, HAPPY, ROAR, THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE and more.
You helped to make many children at the Hasbro Hospital happier when they receive the brand new teddy bear that you generously donated.
Well done D.Y.I.S. Honor Band and parents! Remember to look for the announcement of our next exciting performance!
SAIL/STAR Coffee Cart on Fridays
Students in the SAIL and STAR programs set up and distribute coffee and pastries for staff in the lobby on Friday's.
March Madness Book Tournament
The Literacy Committee is extremely excited to start this Tournament of Books celebrating Women’s History Month! This month serves as a time to honor the achievements and contributions that women of all backgrounds have made throughout the history of the United States, both by remembering those who paved the way in the struggle for gender equity in the United States, and by recognizing the history-makers and barrier breakers of today! Teachers are sharing these stories with students and then voting for their favorites.

Animal Research- After School Activity
These students participated in an after school activity called Animal Research. They were all smiles as they presented their projects! They worked so hard over the 9 weeks and we are all proud of their final project!
