Resources/Economy
Poverty fell by 15.1% below the poverty line. Being below the poverty line means the designated minimum amount of income needed to maintain a certain standard of living, or a "tolerable" standard of living. Being in poverty means being extremely poor, the opposite of wealthy. A great thing about the economy is that in the recent years Chile had high economic growth. Chile had an abundance of the natural resource copper.
History
One unique holiday celebrated in Chile is Fiesta De San Pedro. It is celebrated on June 29th. They celebrate it in honor of the apostle Peter(a great fisherman). Another holiday they celebrate is Quasimodo Sunday. It is celebrated on the following Easter Sunday. Chileans celebrate by decorating homes, wearing costumes, and riding horses and bicycles in parades.
Geography
The Atacama Desert is one of the driest places on Earth. The Atacama Desert is a plateau in South America, covering a 1,000-kilometer strip of land on the Pacific coast, west of the Andes mountains. It is the driest non-polar desert in the world. The reason why it is one of the driest places on Earth is because the area is in the rain shadow of the Andes. Winds from the Atlantic Ocean bring precipitation to regions east of the Andes but, they carry no moisture past them.
Culture
Lots of people are mestizos in Chile. Mestizos are people of mixed race, especially the offspring of a Spaniard and an American Indian. The reason why there are lots of mestizos in Chile is because Spanish settlers and Indians intermarried. To avoid confusion with the original usage of the term mestizo, mixed-race people started to be referred to collectively as castas. About 44% of the population are mestizos in Chile.
