Dear Swanson Parents,
It is that time of year when parents might inquire about their child’s placement for next year. Before the end of this school year, all professional staff will meet with appropriate grade level teams to determine the best placement for all students.
Much thought and dialogue will go into establishing classroom lists for the 2021-22 school year. Our teachers are insightful and qualified to place students in classrooms with teachers who best fit their educational needs. Many considerations are involved in the process. The following criteria will be used to determine placements.
Staff input
Number of students
Academic abilities/needs
Social/behavioral needs
Independent/dependent learners
Leadership skills
Peer relations
Learning styles
As a parent, you may offer your thoughts about your child’s placement. You are an important part of your child’s educational team and we value your feedback. If you choose to provide input, we ask that you:
Make sure your input is submitted in writing to the principal before April 16th.
Input should pertain to your child’s educational needs and should be pertinent to your child only.
I am requesting no teacher’s name be specified or requested in your input for your child’s classroom placement for the 2021-22 school year as Swanson grade level teaching assignments have not been determined.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. We appreciate your support and understanding of our placement process and the guidelines set forth.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Harr and The Swanson Staff
A Window into the Music Classroom!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been unable to hold our normally scheduled music programs. In order to allow your student their time to shine and let you see what we have been doing in the music classroom this year, we will be providing a “Window Into the Music Classroom!”
This week, we started recording some of our favorite singing games, drumming, xylophone pieces, and movement activities that we’ve done throughout the school year. As you can imagine, this will be more informal than previous years since we have been unable to gather and perform in large groups. However, we are so excited to have this opportunity to showcase our learning in the midst of a pandemic!
During the last week of April, you will receive an email with a link to view the completed video, providing you with a glimpse into our music room!

Elementary Instrumental Music Celebration Concerts!
Band and String Families, we are excited to announce our district wide end of the year celebration concerts! Each performer may have 4 guests in attendance with them at these events! Info about safety requirements and practices will be sent home as the dates approach. Please add the appropriate date and time for your student to your family calendars and reserve the night for this event! We can not wait to gather together for a live performance to celebrate all that these students have accomplished as musicians throughout this unprecedented year!

7th Grade Physicals and Immunizations Requirements:
MIDDLE SCHOOL HEALTH PHYSICAL/IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
By law, all incoming 7th graders must present evidence of having a complete physical examination, updated immunizations (Tdap is required by state law), and a dental exam prior to entering school. For missing immunizations, state law allows us to accept only valid medical exemption forms, signed by a physician or notarized religious exemption forms. A signed waiver form from parents/guardian refusing to provide physical exam documentation is also required. All forms are available from the District’s ABC Welcome Center.
Physicians may print out results of the physical exam and immunizations on their forms, or parents may print the 7th grade health physical exam form from the WMS website found in the “Health Information” area. Exams must be completed anytime after March 1, 2021, and before school starts in the Fall. Students planning to participate in sports must have a physical dated after May 1, 2021.
If your child has a chronic condition such as asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy, a health action plan is required. Asthma action plans must be completed and signed by a doctor and may be found on the WMS website in the “Health Information” area or picked up from the WMS main office. I will be checking my email periodically during the summer. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the main office at WMS for general information.
