News from Glen Crest Middle School: September 26, 2021
From the Principal
If you pick up your student after school, we need your help! Traffic is backing up on to Park Blvd after school. The police have come by to ask for our assistance. If you can park on a side street and have your child walk to meet you, that would be very helpful. When parking on side streets, please do not block anyone's driveway.
Also, please remember to use the drop-off lane to drop off your students. Some parents are using the parking lot to wait or drop off their students. This poses a safety concern for students exiting their cars and crossing the parking lot. It also causes a backup in traffic in the main parking lot in the morning. We have increased car traffic due to covid and all need to work together to keep everyone safe. Thank you for your help!
Do you like ice cream? Join the Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center (GECRC) for an Ice Cream Social this Wednesday, September 29th at 6:30 PM in Spartan Hall! This is a great opportunity for our Glen Crest families to familiarize themselves with GECRC and our after-school tutoring program. We're encouraging everyone to RSVP in order to ensure that we have enough ice cream. You can RSVP using this link!
The Glen Crest 7th & 8th grade band had a successful performance during the pre-game festivities at the Glenbard South homecoming game on Friday night. The band marched onto the field and played Chuck Mangione's "Land of Make Believe" along with the Glenbard South band. Mrs. Berry and Mr. Garbar are thankful to all the parents who came out to support the band at their first performance of the school year. Band students may return their Glen Crest issued blue blazer to Mrs. Berry during morning band rehearsal on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday this week.
PE students (all grade levels) need to be working on their Fitness Log! Week 2 is Due Friday, Oct. 1 for 24 points.
Parents of team sport athletes: In order to ensure we will be able to keep sports going, the schools in our athletic conference have agreed to only allow home team families and students in to watch the games. Most of the schools have small gyms and bleachers, which makes social distancing difficult. Only attending home games allows all families to see their student play every team in the conference and reduces the risk of a covid outbreak. As conditions improve and risk declines, this decision will be re-evaluated.
Picture re-take day is Wednesday, October 13th. Any students who were absent on picture day will have their pictures taken then. If you are not happy with your child's picture, have them bring the pictures in the original envelope back to school on the 13th and they can have a re-take during their lunch period.
