MVMS DIFFERENCE MAKER😊
A Huge Shout Out to one of our Rockstar 8th grade Eagles Tabby for being a difference maker. She is kind to everyone she meets and helps to maintain a positive, friendly culture at MVMS. Way to Go Tabby and thank you for making MVMS a better place for all.
Spring has Sprung and Testing Season has Almost Begun!!
Your child will take the following tests, depending on their grade level or instructional program:
· Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts and math, required tests in grades 3–8 and 11
· California Science Test (CAST), a required test in grades 5 and 8 and once in high school
This year, Menifee Union School District will give the summative assessments in person.
You are an important part of your child’s education. To make sure your child feels comfortable taking tests, you can:
· Explain to your child that these tests are tools to help them learn, and they should not be anxious or scared.
· Explore the practice tests with your child at caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html so they can become familiar with the platform and setup of the tests.
· Remind your child that you and their teacher want them to try their best and are there to help, every step of the way.
You will receive your child’s results at or before the beginning of the next school year. The results will identify where your child is doing well or needs more help, so you can better support their learning at home and teachers can better support their learning in the classroom.
To learn more about these tests go to the Starting Smarter web page at ca.startingsmarter.org/, or review the Parent Guides to Understanding at cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp.
MVMS Gardening Club
With the help of RivCo Dept of Waste Resources and Ms. Powell, our Gardening Club learned about the benefits of vermicomposting to our ecosystem and their plants' lives. Vermicomposting is a composting method that uses worm castings, I'll let your Eagle tell you what that is, and worm tea. It is a great option for those who do not have yard waste. A few of our students along with Ms. Powell , who leads the club, and our principal Mrs. Douglas created a worm bin for vermicomposting. The bin (pictured below) was donated as part of a grant secured by Mrs.Powell for the Gardening Club. The students really enjoyed learning and working with the worms.
Riverside County offers Green Home Classes where you can learn all about the benefits of using environmentally sound practices. Some of the FREE class offered are: Green Cleaning, Green Gardening, Green Landscaping, Green Wardrobe, just to name a few. Click the Link for more information.
