EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS!
Annual Giving Campaign Update!
We need your help Panther Parents! We’re 75% through the annual giving 100 campaign and there are only 2 weeks left to give. We’re only 37% of the way to our goal and only 20% of our community has donated. We can do this. Let’s go Panther Parents!
Your donations fund vital teacher supplies, classroom materials, our WEB program, support for our inclusion/special needs program, English Language Development resources, technology, grade level field trips, athletics, Improv, teacher/staff appreciation, campus beautification and much more. Culver City Middle School is one of the best middle schools in greater LA because of how strongly our community supports our school. We need everyone to lean in and stretch to give meaningfully to ensure we are able to continue supporting these important programs.

Copy Room Volunteers Needed
Are you looking for a way to get involved at CCMS? Do you like helping out your kids’ teachers? If so the PTSA is looking for volunteers to work in the copy room this year. Please contact Allison Herbst (asherbst@me.com) if you are interested.
Help CCMS by volunteering in the CCMS Student Store!
The CCMS Student Store is an extremely important source of revenue for the PTSA - and a great way to get a peek into what's happening with CCMS students during their lunch hour and right after school! So why not volunteer to work the CCMS Student Store?! It's open daily for students to buy snacks at lunch and after school, PE clothes, and Spirit Wear and we need lots of parents to staff it. Please take advantage of this chance to be on campus and volunteer today! Sign up here! Please make sure to check your Volunteer Clearance with the office prior to signing up to help.

She is always willing to jump into any Panther activity and is always a listening ear. We are so grateful to have Ms. Lizotte as our October Employee of the Month!
National Period Day
On October 19, 2019, we will rally for NATIONAL PERIOD DAY -- elevating the issue of period poverty and demanding real change to making period products more accessible for all and ending the #TamponTax. This is an inclusive rally! Whether you menstruate or not, EVERYONE is welcome. Bring all your family and friends! Bring posters! Wear red!
It’s 2019, and yet, 35 US States still have a sales tax on period products considering them non-essential items. 1 in 4 women struggle to afford period products due to a lack of income. In the first city-wide study on period poverty, it was found that 46% of low-income women had to choose between a meal and period products. Because of the period stigma that makes menstruation a taboo topic, we don’t often think about what it’s like for a homeless or low-income menstruator to get their period, and don’t have open conversations about period health or solutions to period poverty.
We believe that it is a fundamental human right to be able to discover and reach your full potential, regardless of a natural need – and what could be more natural than menstruation? Simply put -- MENSTRUAL HYGIENE IS A RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE. We are the Menstrual Movement -- fighting for equitable access to menstrual hygiene, and breaking down the stigma surrounding periods. This fight is on ALL OF US, and we must TAKE ACTION NOW. Unlike most poverty-related issues, this one is solvable. Along with destigmatizing periods, we are calling for:
1) Clean and healthy period products to be freely accessible in schools, shelters, and prisons
2) Eliminate the “tampon tax” - exempt period products from the sales tax in the remaining 35 states
PLEASE SHARE! There are rallies being hosted all across the US in honor of PERIOD DAY!
We especially need ACTIVISTS from marginalized communities, so please share and contact deemontealvo@ccusd.org!
L.A. Rally is on Saturday, October 19th 12:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m.

Help Your Child Sign Up for PAWs Online with Enriching Students!
In fact, students can sign up for PAWs sessions any time at home or through the Enriching Students phone app. Most students are already aware of the process of signing up, but you can assist them and check to make sure they are signed up each week by visiting this link: Enriching Students to Sign Up for Paws!
Students use their CCUSD Google login information to sign up, and it's best to sign up as early as possible, as PAWs sessions fill up quickly. Please also note that students cannot make same-day changes to their PAWs sessions.
If your child needs additional help signing up for PAWs, they can see their period 1 teachers or counselors for assistance.
Students who are habitually not signing up each week will receive a lunch detention for the first missed sign-up, a Fun Friday detention for the second missed sign-up, and a Saturday School for the third missed sign-up.
Also, please be aware that teachers now take attendance online for PAWs, so students who are present at school but not showing up to their PAWs sessions will be called into the office and given the same consequences as above if they are truant from PAWs.

Come to CCMS to hear USC student Jake Olson, talk about his academic and athletic success against all odds.
- Multi-Purpose Room, CCMS
- Wednesday, October 16, 2019
- 7:00pm
The following year, he made history as the first fully-blind athlete to play in a college football game. He took the field Sept. 2 in the season opener against Western Michigan and snapped on an extra point. It was good.
Olson's story was chronicled by ESPN reporter Shelley Smith in the E:60 segment "Fight On," which won the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Long Feature last May. Now 21 and a redshirt junior, Olson is an inspirational speaker who has taken the podium at events for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Dick Vitale's V Foundation for Cancer Research and the American Cancer Society. He already has authored two books, My Life With Cancer Holding Jesus' Hand (which he wrote at age eight) and Open Your Eyes: 10 Uncommon Lessons to Discover a Happier Life (age 16).

Pay Attention to Attendance:
Keep Your Child On Track in Middle and High School
Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job.
