M-STEP Testing 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians of 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders,
We begin M-STEP testing next week! Please see the information and dates below regarding M-STEP testing. The testing window opened April 8th. We will begin testing at Roosevelt on Tuesday, April 16th with our 4th graders. I believe our teachers do an incredible job preparing our students for these assessments. It is important to remember that, between both M-STEP and NWEA, these tests are a snapshot of what your child knows. We ask that they come to school rested and prepared to give their best effort. Thinking positively can also go a long way as they prepare. Doing their best is all we ask of them. We believe they are ready!
What is allowed?
Technology, including smart phones and smart watches, is not allowed during the testing sessions. However, if your student has a cell phone helping to monitor their diabetes it will be placed with their teacher/proctor in very close proximity so that it still connects and provides the necessary data to keep your student safe and healthy.
Any phone or watch should be kept at home on testing days to decrease distractions and the risk of making its way into the classroom during testing. If the device comes to school it will need to be powered off and in their locker. These guidelines are put forth by the Michigan Department of Education.
Headphones
Students will need to use headphones for the M-STEP for the directions. The directions will be read aloud to them through the testing site. Many students have their own headphones that they sometimes bring back and forth. If your child's headphones are most comfortable please make sure they have them at school. We have headphones available, but not all students feel as though they are extremely comfortable. We have purchased some extras, but if your child has a pair they prefer please feel free to send them in. They do need to be corded headphones as blue tooth will not connect. Thank you!
Rest, Hydration and Fuel!
Please be sure that your child is getting plenty of rest on the days leading up to the test. Studies show that students between the ages of 6-12 need 9 to 12 hours of sleep a night! Please help your child do their best by helping them get to bed. Sending a water bottle to school and making sure they eat a good breakfast is also important so that they can focus and do their best!
