VARIETY SHOW AUDITIONS - FEBRUARY 3 AND 4
A sign-up sheet is posted outside the band room. CE members should sign up for a Monday time. Acts do not need to be performance-ready. Students can pitch an idea and show a little of their amazing talents. The more variety, the better. We are looking for all types of acts. More information on the event will be forthcoming.. The show will be held on April 2, so mark your calendars.

ESSA
The following was sent out via Campus Messenger this week. The attachment is at the bottom of the newsletter.
Dear McKinley Parents and Guardians,
The state has released new information on school performance as required by a federal education law called the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Background information on ESSA is attached for your information
Based on this system of school accountability and support under ESSA, our school has received a designation of Targeted Support and Improvement. Our specific challenges include academic achievement scores for Black/African-American students and students with disabilities (IEP).
Over the next three years, our school will receive support from the state and our area education agency, Grant Wood Area Education Agency. With this support, we will create a local team to develop and implement a plan for improvement that fits the individual needs of our school. As you know, no two schools are the same and each has its own unique context.
While we have important work to do to address the factors which have contributed to our designation through ESSA, we also have many things to celebrate in our school, such as a significant increase in the percentage of all students demonstrating growth in reading and our school no longer being classified as “targeted” by the state for students identified as low socio-economic status.
We look forward to addressing the needs of our students through this process, which we view as an opportunity to build on the great things we have going on. You can help by providing input as we develop our improvement plan and by continuing to support our school, our staff, and our students. We welcome your thoughts. To locate our school’s results, as well as more information about the Iowa School Performance Profiles and ESSA, visit the following website: www.iaschoolperformance.gov.
The McKinley staff and I greatly appreciate your continued support for our school and students. We look forward to our continued efforts to work with you to address our school’s needs and celebrate our accomplishments.
In Collaboration,
Jason Martinez, Principal
