Grade 3 News
April
Volcanoes
Mrs. Morris' class was the final third grade class to learn about Pangaea, the theory of Plate Tectonics, and the forces at work in our Earth. They also enjoyed their culminating project: building and erupting volcanoes!
Making a Mess
Students had fun mixing the dough that would serve as their tool for building a volcano.
Math
The third graders had to measure the ingredients used to make their dough.
St. Patrick's Day
The children were lucky enough to create their volcanoes on St. Patrick's Day.
IMPORTANT: Plimoth Plantation Field Trip!
- Friday, June 9th
- Chaperones MUST have a CORI on file
- Chaperones will be needed for Plimoth Plantation only
- Keep an eye out for the permission slip--coming soon!
The American Red Cross "Pillowcase Project"
Safety Procedures
The children learned about safety procedures, and how to prepare for emergencies at home.
Pillowcases
They were then given a pillowcase to decorate and bring home as a way to be prepared with a "to-go" kit for emergencies.
Fun While Learning
This program was both fun, and informative, for the third graders!
Math In Focus--Measurement
Cooperation
Third graders worked with partners to measure different objects and areas in their classrooms.
Note-Taking
Students recorded their measurements of objects and areas around the room.
Inches, Feet and Yards
The third graders measured inches, feet, and yards using rulers and tape measures.
Preparing for the MCAS
Third graders have been working on their typing skills as we prepare for the MCAS. Please continue to have them work on this important skill at home! The testing expectations are high; students will be expected to type long responses during their testing experience, so the more practice they have, the better!
Cape Cod Canal Presentation
The US Army Corps of Engineers came to present to the third graders at Harwich Elementary School! They gave us an overview about how and why the canal was made, and what it is used for. This information will be helpful when we go on our June field trip to the Cape Cod Canal!
