In the Classroom
This week we are working on solving word problems. There are 4 types of word problems. Some and Some More (+), Some Went Away (-), Bigger, Smaller, Difference (-), and Part-Part-Whole (+ or -) The students need to be able to determine the type of problem in order to create the number sentence that they will need to solve.
In writing we are using 4-squares for organization again.
In reading we have are learning about different types of media and how it is used.
Our spelling words this week are -oot words.
We are working on our plant unit. We are planting seeds and watching them grow!!
In social studies we have been learning about how technology has changed our world and comparing life now to the past.

FIELD TRIP TO HERITAGE FARM- TUESDAY, MAY 23
Dear First Grade Parents,
Students brought their yellow field trip letter and permission slip home recently. Please read over the information and send the signed permission slip, lunch form, and money back to school as soon as possible. The deadline is next Monday, March 27th. We are limited to parent volunteers, so we will only be taking three parents per class on a first come, first served basis. Please contact the your child’s teacher if you are interested in attending, but because of limited space, sibling attendance is discouraged. Parents that will be attending will need to have a background check on file with the district as soon as possible. The link for the background check is below. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Van Horne at the email below.

Friday, March 24, 2017 Mother/Son Movie NIght- at Cox Elementary showing Sing from 6:30-8:30 PM (nachos and popcorn will be served) bring lawn chairs or blanket to sit on if you like.
Friday, April 7, 2017 Cox Elementary Spring Carnival (tickets are $5.00/person if ordered in advance by April 5 or $6.00/person if purchased at the door)
Thursday, April 27, 2017 First grade presents: "Weather!" on the Cox Elementary stage (be in the gym promptly at 6;15 pm wearing pants with pockets and a colorful shirt (any color of the rainbow)
