Definition
Gestational Diabetes- Pregant women having a form of high blood sugar, effecting them and possibly the baby.
Problems/Symptoms
In most cases of Gestational Diabetes there are no symptoms. During a Pregnancy they are giving a blood sugar test to use as a diagnosis. Some people may experience fatigue ( increased thirst) and frequent urination or yeast infecation
Foods to stay away from
Avoid foods/drinks with added sugar, it can upset your blood glucose control.
Examples: Energy drinks, candy, desserts and ect.
Foods that are beneficial to eat
Make sure you eat plenty of fruits and some dairy products when you have Gestational diabetes.
Example: Milk, Cheese, Starberrys, Watermelon and ect.
Long term effects
The Long term effects of having Gestational diabetes for the mother are it increases the chances of developing diabetes in the future. The long term effect on the children is they're at risk of obesity and type two diabetes through the their life.
Treatment types
Treatment
Gestational diabetes is treatable by medical professionals, requires a medical diagnosis, lad test or imaging is always required. Treatment strategies for Gestational diabetes are daylie blood sugar monitoring, a healthy diet, exercise, and monitoring the baby. If blood sugar is to high medication is needed. In most cases it resolved within months.
Examples of Medication: Metformin (Glucophage), Insulin Lispro by injection ( Homalog), and Insulin by injection.
