Growing Greatness
Dear Northwood Community,
We have short, 4 day week this week, with the Battle of Flowers holiday on Friday, but it will be a busy week.
On Tuesday, our 5th grade students will take the STAAR Science Test. We will have a closed campus again this day in order to give a quiet secure testing environment.
Remember to help you child get a good nights sleep tonight, a healthy breakfast in the morning and to be at school on time. The test is designed to be completed in 2-3 hours, but students will be given 7 hours if they need it. Even starting as soon as possible in the morning, 7 hours does take us past dismissal time. If your child is still working on completing the test at dismissal, you will be contacted to come pick them up a little late. Also the campus will be closed to visitors on testing days, so please plan accordingly.
Next Tuesday, April 30, is STAAR Math for grades 3, 4, and 5. Please make sure you have marked your calendar so everyone is ready to be at school that day.
Have a great week and thank you for your support!

School Absences
Our goal is for all of our students to maintain outstanding attendance (at least 95%). Our current rate is 93.8%.We are close, but moving in the wrong direction.
The best way to learn is by being present at school and on time, ready to learn at 7:30 am every day! If your child needs to be absent due to illness, please be sure to send a note to school the day they return explaining the reason for the absence. Absences for illness and medical appointments will be excused with a written note from a parent or doctor.
Please Don't Idle
Please help keep our community healthy, by turning off your car engine in front of our school.
WHY IS IDLING AN ISSUE?
- Idling is expensive: Idling may consume a gallon of fuel or more per hour, depending on the vehicle.
- Idling threatens health: Breathing vehicle emissions increases the risk of respiratory illness, especially in children.
- Idling pollutes: Emissions from vehicles combine in sunlight to form ground-level ozone pollution.
Morning Routines
Our school day is from 7:30 am - 2:45 pm. Students may enter the building as early as 6:50 am to eat breakfast. If your child arrives before 7:23 am they will wait in the following location K-1: Cafeteria, 2-5: Gym. Please have your child put a book in their backpack, so they can read while they wait. At 7:23 am the teachers will pick up the students and go to class. The tardy bell rings at 7:30 am, so please allow plenty of time. In order to ensure the safety of all our students, we ask that parents not come into the building in the mornings. We will make sure that everyone gets to class safely.
School Breakfast and Lunch
We have a wonderful cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch daily. This year meals are provided at no charge to ALL students as part of the Community Eligibility Program.
If your child wants "extras" beyond the regular school tray, you need to add money to their cafeteria account by visiting schoolcafe.com or sending in a check or cash.

Pick Up Procedures
Everyone picking up a student from school at dismissal is required to present an official green Northwood Dismissal Tag. If you need an extra one, please let your child’s teacher know. If you do not have a dismissal tag, you will be required to come to the front office and present an ID.
All car pick and parent pick up must present their tag and wait for their child to be called at dismissal.Parent Pick Up will line up on the sidewalk near the marquee, with their green tag and wait to be called. Please do not go over to the area where your child is sitting.
Car pick up will hang their green tag on their rear view mirror, line up on Rockhill and turn right into the school driveway. Wait for your child's name to be called and pull all the way forward. Please stay in your car. If you need to help your child with their buckle, please park and drive up.
We understand that this may take a little longer, however, we want to ensure that everyone goes homes safely. Thank you for your cooperation.
