Mission Statment
The Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church.
Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs without discrimination.
Origins
The Salvation Army was founded in London, England, in 1865 by Catherine and William Booth. They reached out to the destitute and desperate people of the East London Streets. There they battled to protect women and children from sex trafficking. From here, the Salvation Army branched out and opened up new houses for not only women and children in need, but anyone who needed assistance.
Camps
Thousands of children from low-income families enjoy fresh air, exercise and new friendships at annual summer camp programs.
Thrift Shops
The salvation army thrift stores take donated clothing,furniture, and other household goods and sell them at low prices to those in need.
Salvation Army Santas
The red kettle program collects million of dollars each year to aid needy families, senior, and the homeless through the Christmas holiday.The provide financial assistance for Christmas dinners, clothing, and toys for families in need.
