What is Open eBooks?
Open eBooks is an app that provides access to thousands of popular and award-winning titles to Title I programs, military bases, special education teachers, librarians, and by extension, students and families. See link for additional information.
How do I get access to the app?
To access the app, sign up on the Open eBooks site to receive access codes. Using those codes, students can download the free Open eBooks app to mobile devices to access thousands of eBooks. (http://openebooks.net/index.html)
1. Before you begin you will need to have access to the following information:
- The approximate percentage of children you serve who come from low-income families, and the basis for this estimate (free and reduced lunch, census data or similar information)
- The breakdown of students you serve by grade level (i.e., 20 3rd graders, 100 4th 5th and 6th graders, etc.)
2. Go to http://openebooks.net/index.html
3. Click white “Get Started” button in upper right corner
4. Click the blue “Sign Up” button about halfway down the page
5. Request code: Visit the First Book Marketplace and request as many free access codes as you need for the number of children you serve. Each child you serve should receive their own unique code. There are different codes for different age ranges. Note: You will not be asked to enter names or any personal identifying information about the children.
6. Once you have requested the codes, you will receive an email with the access codes and download instructions for the app.
