CPHS Weekly Update
Parent Update: March 11th, 2024
Greetings from Crown Point High School!
Here is some information for our parents and families as we begin a new week at CPHS.
Tuesday, March 12th - eLearning Day
Tuesday, March 12th, is an eLearning day for the Crown Point Community School Corporation. Teachers will communicate with their students about their responsibilities for the day.
9-Week Grade Snapshot
The end of the third 9 weeks was Friday, March 8th. Please view Buzz for a snapshot of where your students are midway through the semester.
For athletic eligibility, student-driver auto insurance discounts, and honor roll, this snapshot serves as the 9-week report card and an update of where students currently stand at the end of the first quarter. Instructions for accessing Buzz are linked here.
Please email cp2.0parenthelp@cps.k12.in.us if you are having issues accessing your Buzz account.
There is plenty of time to bring grades up. We report grades at the end of each semester so that students have a longer time to demonstrate what they know and can do.
Please encourage your student to ask for help from teachers, counselors, graduation coaches, or administrators if they need assistance. The second semester ends on May 31st.

Advanced Placement Exam Payments Due
Please log into your Power School account to see if there is an outstanding AP exam fee which requires payment. This fee was uploaded to your student’s Power School account in the 1st Semester if they are signed up for an AP Exam. We are asking that all payments are received prior to April 15, 2024. Any failure to settle outstanding exam fees may result in your student being ineligible to take his or her AP exam in the month of May. Please read the attached letter for more information on exam fees and instructions for paying an exam fee. After reading the attached letter, if you still have questions, please reach out directly to Vince Bauters at the following phone number: (219) 663-4885 Extension 11016.

Dress Donations
If you have dresses that you would like to donate for this year’s upcoming prom please bring them to CPHS! We are really interested in obtaining long dresses and shoes for students attending this dance. Donating is easy, bring your items into our front office and simply drop them off. From there our staff will pick them up and get them ready for students to go through and try on. We will be running the donations up until Friday, March 22nd.
On Monday, April 1st, anyone student looking for a dress and/or shoes for Prom can come to room F102 after school to look through our inventory. You may find your dream dress! F102 will be open until 4pm.
Please contact Mrs. Sokol, asokol@cps.k12.in.us for any questions.
Junior Class Parents - April 23rd
CPHS would like to invite the parents of our junior students to attend a presentation on Tuesday, April 23rd from 5-6 PM in our auditorium. Topics covered will be related to senior year. This presentation will provide information that will help your family with the year-long transition into your student’s post-secondary endeavors. Representatives from Purdue Northwest and Valparaiso University will be joining us to provide general information about the college admissions process during the initial portion of the presentation . This invitation is for parents/guardians only (due to limited space).
FAFSA Information
During the 2023 legislative session, the Indiana General Assembly passed Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 167-2023 which requires high school seniors to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or affirmatively opt out of filing by April 15, 2024. Completing the FAFSA is an important step in the postsecondary education process. Students pursuing short-term certificate training, associate/bachelor’s degrees and even some apprenticeships may receive financial aid by completing the FAFSA.
It is important to file your FAFSA as early as possible for three reasons:
1) The sooner you file, the sooner colleges can put together your financial aid offer. The sooner you have all your financial aid offers, the sooner you can begin to compare offers and make the best decisions for your families.
2) Money that is available through FAFSA is limited. Once the FAFSA money is gone, it's gone. It's a "first come, first served" kind of situation. The Indiana deadline for filing the FAFSA is April 15, but don't wait!
3) Federal student loans are only available through FAFSA. If you are planning to use federal student loans at all, you must file the FAFSA. Also, most colleges and universities don't like to give out scholarship money unless you have a FAFSA on file.
You can check out the links below for more information about FAFSA.

Safety Reminders for Students
Students should report to a teacher, counselor, administrator, police officer, or any adult in the building if there is a safety concern. It is always better to overreport and be on the safe side.
During school hours (7:00 a.m. to 2:37 p.m.) hats and hoods are not allowed to be worn in our building. This is so that all students can be identified. This is also a part of the CPHS dress code.
Student drivers must remain cautious in the parking lot and near the school. Please remind students to drive slowly and follow the directions of our police officers. All student drivers must have a parking pass displayed in their vehicle while in the CPHS lot.
Student dismissal is at 2:37 pm. Students who do not have supervised after-school activities should leave the building by 3 pm. Students who are waiting for rides should wait in the lobby of the school near the front entrance.
Please do not use the ARC building across the street (Burrell) to pick up your students. The ARC staff has asked us to relay this message.
