Ranger's Day
Read for the Record - Mark your Calendars!
This October 27th marks the eighth year that Sodexo will sponsor Keller ISD in the national “Read for the Record” campaign, hosted by the early education advocate, JumpStart.
What ideas do you have to make this day of reading extra special? Parent readers? Student readers? Other guest readers? Bear costumes? Picnics? Sandwiches? Detectives? This is the same day as our RRW assembly too. Should we move it to Friday, October 28 and use it somehow for our Storybook Character Parade?
Here is a summary of the book:
By now I think you know what happened to your sandwich.
But you may not know how it happened.
So let me tell you.
It all started with the bear . . .
So begins Julia Sarcone-Roach’s delicious tale of a bear, lost in the city, who happens upon an unattended sandwich in the park. The bear’s journey from forest to city and back home again is full of happy accidents, funny encounters, and sensory delights. The story is so engrossing, it’s not until the very end that we begin to suspect this is a TALL tale.
The wonderfully told story, spectacular illustrations, and surprise ending make this Julia Sarcone-Roach’s best book to date. You’ll want to share it with your friends (and keep a close eye on your lunch).

Mock Election for KISD
The district planned three lessons for elementary / intermediate schools (grades 3-6) regarding the process of how we elect our President and the separation of powers among the three branches of government. The elementary/intermediate lessons will be through a Google presentation. The mock election will be the week of October 31 – November 4 and will be done through a Google survey. If students wish to participate they will be required to login to their kellerisd.com email and will only be allowed to respond one time. I wanted you to have this information so you would be able to answer any questions a parent may have regarding the process of mock election.
The lessons in no way mention any candidates or platforms for these elections; they are simply overviews of HOW and WHY we elect our president through an electoral college. Teachers will be given this information during the October 10th PD session, but I wanted you to be aware of how the election was being handled.
