Testing Updates
We are about to begin testing season at Plainfield High School. There have been some changes from the State that will impact testing this year. The graduation testing rules and requirements are different based on grade level. First up for testing are our sophomores and students enrolled in Biology. The first round of ISTEP+ testing will begin for them on March 1st.
ISTEP Round 1
- English: Thursday, March 3rd and Friday, March 4th
- Math: Tuesday, March 1st and Wednesday, March 2nd
- Biology: Tuesday, March 8th
Students who test in March will take the second round of ISTEP testing at the end of April and the beginning of May. These new tests reflect the changes to the Indiana Academic Standards and will be the graduation tests for students in the Class of 2019 when they take them next year.
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who have not previously passed the End of Course Assessment in Algebra and English 10 will take those tests at the beginning of May following the completion of ISTEP+ round 2. Students in AP courses will also be busy with Advanced Placement tests during the first part of May.
While it is always important for students to be at school, it is even more critical during these significant testing dates. If you have any questions about testing, please contact Mr. Schwanekamp.
Senior Etiquette Dinner
The Senior Etiquette Dinner will be held on February 24th in the Cafeteria from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Please plan on attending this very informative business dinner with your fellow peers. RSVP with student services or with your English teacher.
Seats are limited to the first 100 students.

Containers
There is an old Chinese saying: “If we don’t change our direction, we are likely to wind up where we are headed.” How simple and honest is that? Well, it’s already a new year! A good time to make a change.
Here’s an easy change that can make an impact in four areas of our own lives. When we go out to eat, let’s take our own containers to use as doggie bags. There is no legitimate reason not to. Here’s how it will help:
- We split our huge plate of food in half decreasing calorie, fat, and sugar intake.
- Supplies us with another meal to have at home, saving money and time.
- Decreases trash in the environment by using our own reusable container.
- Multiplies the benefits when the people at nearby tables and your server see what you did and do it themselves the next time they go out.
Have a very Happy New Year!!

Plainfield High School vs Avon High School
10th Annual Reading Challenge 2016
It is time to announce the start of the Tenth Annual Plainfield/Avon Reading Challenge. This is a contest between Plainfield High School and Avon High School. The Reading Challenge is sponsored by the Media Center. The contest will run from February 8 - 26, 2016. Students may read books, magazines, or newspapers – as long as it is not for a class assignment. Students will then need to show a staff member what they have read and answer a few questions. When a student reads over 500 pages, he or she will be recognized with a locker sign and his/her name posted on the 500 Wall of Fame. The top ten readers from our school will get to throw a pie at Mr. Schmitt, but only if our students read more pages than Avon High School. There will also be a competition between English classes for the traveling class trophy. Please help encourage your child to participate in this contest so Plainfield High School can become the Tenth Annual Plainfield/Avon Reading Challenge Champion!
