HPES Parent Update
3/24/2020
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Highland Park Families,
First and foremost I hope you and your family all are doing well. We are going through a situation that is unprecedented and stressful with the spread of the corona-virus. In the midst of this, I have been able to witness the amazing Highland Park Bulldog spirit we have at our campus and within our community. I am thankful and feel blessed to lead Highland Park Elementary. Your compassion is evident and I’m beyond grateful to be a part of our community. Let’s continue to band together as a Highland Park family and support each other. Please let our little bulldogs know we love and miss them. I hope you were able to enjoy today's teacher parade. It filled our hearts to see the smiling faces of our bulldogs. Missing them dearly. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have. Take care of yourself and your family.
Please see a few campus updates below.
Warm Regards,
Lizbeth Ruiz
Principal
Highland Park Elementary
School Closures
In accordance with Governor Abbott's orders, all PfISD schools and facilities will be closed through at least April 13th. This includes all district and campus events. The District will await guidance from the Governor and other state officials to determine when they will open.
Distance Learning Begins Monday, March 30th!
There have been several video conference meetings that have taken place with district level leaders and there will be more happening this week, specifically with the curriculum department. We will be making the plans to provide learning support for our students and delivering that information to you as soon as possible. Without a doubt, we are here to continue supporting our students and families. Please expect a phone call or email from your child's teacher this week with guidance on what remote learning will look like for your child. Remote learning is expected to begin on Monday, March 30th.
Valuable at Home Learning
It is a stressful time as all of us are trying to juggle a strange new work from home/home school/entertainment/what's next world! I encourage you to value the gift of family time. Cooking and board games have valuable learning opportunities. Household chores require physical exertion. Have your child start a journal of how they spent their days during this strange time. In addition, there are free resources listed at the bottom of the news.
The staff of Highland Park love and miss your children. Please know that, and tell them "Hello" from us! Teachers will be in contact with you soon! Stay safe!

With regards to safety and health and in an effort to assist our parents, all campus nurses will be at their campuses on Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.to allow for a curbside medication pick up. A parent or guardian must pick up the medication and sign for it. We will only be offering curbside pickup in order to practice social distancing.
