Principal's Message
It is hard to believe that December is here and our Lane calendar is full of learning opportunities for our students.
This weekend we will be presenting Frozen Jr. at Hale. I hope you can make one of the shows. I will be there opening night, Dec. 5th. We will also have our band and choir concert this month on Dec. 10th. Both of these events highlight the many talents of our students.
Our next parent teacher conferences will be December 12th from 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm. We have listened to your feedback. The entire time will be allocated to families talking to teachers. We will use the arena style format, however we are looking at space and placement of staff.
Lastly, I would like to welcome two new staff members to Lane.
Mr. Brandon Green, our youth advisor, started on Nov 25th. He has been in the halls connecting with students as well as leading student mediations when needed.
Mr. Robert Carravetta, BL8, started Dec 2nd. Mr. Carravetta and I will team teach his first week at Lane as he gets to know our students and staff.

Bully Prevention
Our counselors, Mr. Malin and Ms. Piotrowski have been in classrooms teaching lessons pertaining to bully prevention. The lessons were provided for all students. Please, see the included presentation.
If you have any questions, please contact either Mr. Malin, Ms. Piotrowski or Mrs, Kayzar.
AM Detention
Parents,
We have started offering morning detention. If your son/daughter receives an am detention, you will be notified by staff via phone call and/or email. Your student will be notified by a yellow slip from the staff member. If they miss the detention, we will provide follow up communication. If transportation is an issue, please contact Mr. Hammernik via email hammernikr@wawmsd.org or call 414-329-6612.
When: Before School (7:20 - 7:35) 15 minute increments
Where: Room 105
Why: Not meeting behavior expectations
During this time, students will:
Be working on an academic task (read, draw, write, study, etc).
Not be talking, eating, sleeping, or on electronic devices.
Possible exceptions: Breakfast is allowed. Technology for academics.
Morning Procedure
As the weather is changing, I want to remind families of our morning procedures. When it is dry, students are outside until 7:20am. At 7:20 am, the students that would like to eat breakfast are allowed to enter the cafe. Everyone else is outside until the bell rings at 7:35 am. We are outside until the weather is in the 10 degree range.
If you have a music student with an instrument, Ms. Franklin will escort groups to the music area to drop of their instrument and then the students will return to the cafe to eat or go back outside until 7:35am.
Our bells ring at 7:35am and students enter the building to proceed to lockers and classrooms. Class starts at 7:45 am. If your son/daughter arrive after 7:45am, they report to the office and they receive a tardy pass. If they are excused, please communicate the reason to the office so the tardy is excused.
Our goal is 95% attendance. We love having everyone at school and ready to learn.
Free Dental Care @ Lane
Washington DC -- 2020
The initial sign-up deadline of November 20th passed without 50 participants registered (quoted price is based on 75 participants). As a result, BrightSpark has capped the registration at 50 participants in order to avoid having to reserve a 2nd bus and drastically increasing the trip price for those currently signed up.
IF your student wants to attend the 2020 Lane Washington DC trip, please sign them up ASAP!! There is a waiting list started for additional participants. BrightSpark will determine when there are enough participants signed up to be cost effective for a second bus and will then move the participants from the waiting list to attend the trip (likely in December). The sooner we have people sign up, the better.
All CURRENT 6th & 7th graders are eligible to attend in 2020. This is their only chance to attend while at Lane.
****Register at: https://portal. brightsparktravel.com/ Tour Code: THFQFMS****
The trip is September 23-26, 2020.
