Our Leadership Quality of the week is "Respect."
CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE WEEK
LEE LIFE PRINCIPLE:
Respect- showing consideration for others
LESSON IN LEADERSHIP:
We will often have visitors in our school. When a visitor arrives, look them in the eyes, shake hands, tell them who you are, and welcome the person to our school.
LEE QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
“Consideration for others is the basis of a good life, a good society” -Confucius
What we are learning:
READING & WRITING
We are working on writing about reading. This week we introduced our read-aloud novel, Home of the Brave" by Katherine Applegate. Also, learners started working on creating journal entries to raise their level of reading. Spelling unit 1 was introduced.
MATH
We explored addition and subtraction strategies, estimation, and rounding. Learners focused on the rule of three. Always read the math problem three times before solving it.
SCIENCE
We introduced the triple beam balance. Learners completed a GIMZO to explore how to use this scientific equipment.
Social Studies:
We are exploring Early Settlements in America. This week we learned about the colonies of Jamestown and Plymouth. Next week we will explore St. Augustine and compare and contrast the Early Settlements.

Important Information
Istation: At the beginning of every month, learners will take their monthly Istation assessments. They know the routine for this - there are 4 parts to this assessment - Vocabulary, Spelling, Comprehension (reading a story & answering questions), and Fluency. It is very important that you DO NOT assist your learner with this assessment.
Student Zoom Sign In Update: Please make sure that learners log into ZOOM with their g.coppellisd.com accounts starting on Monday, August 31st. If you would like more information, please view this website.
Schoology: As we continue with virtual learning, Schoology is a very important tool during this time. We know some of our learners are using the app, but it is best for them to use the web-based version: https://schoology.coppellisd.com/
Learners need to make sure they are completing and submitting all of their work for each course since that is how we are taking attendance. In addition, although online learning is taking place at home, learners should be starting and finishing their work on their own as they would in-person at school.
Lee Specials Quarterly Newsletter: Our specials team puts out a newsletter each week. Check it out!
Box Tops: Did you know you can SCAN Box Tops and earn money for our school with items you already purchase for your home? Learn more about this quick and easy way to help our school.
