Lions Park Paw Prints
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
I am in disbelief that spring break is here and that it will already be April when we return to school. This year has been so full of learning and memorable experiences that it has flown by!
Students did an excellent job of working hard and staying focused during the IAR last week. Thanks for your partnership in sending them to school ready to test. We enjoyed seeing so many of our students demonstrate their enthusiasm for science at the PTO sponsored Science Fair on Wednesday. Thanks ot Mrs. Kronforst and Mrs. Morton for running this special event. Today the students enjoyed an assembly called Crime Scene Science Investigation. Thanks to the PTO for providing this assembly and to all families who donated to our Roar and Run and made this possible!
When we return from the break, it will be Disability Awareness Week in District 57. This is an opportunity for students to learn about disabilities through stories, videos and activites planned by Fairview special education teacher and D57 parent, Katianne Olson. As part of this week, we will be raising money for Gerry's Cafe by selling stickers in the lunchroom for $3 each. Exact change is appreciated. More details are on the flyer below.
As you may know from the news (news link), there will be a solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. District 57 has ordered safety glasses that will enable students to view the eclipse outdoors safely. This interactive map also helps show what the sun will look like at different times. Students will be provided background information about the eclipse and instructions on safely using protective glasses before teachers take their students outside to view the eclipse between 2:10 - 2:20 PM. Students will promptly return to the building as soon as they have viewed the eclipse. If you do NOT want your child to go outside on Monday, April 8th, to view the eclipse, please email me at kkelly@d57.org by Friday, April 5th.
I wish you and your family a healthy and fun spring break, whether you travel or stay in the area!

5th Grade MPPD Officer Friendly Visit April 5th
This lecture/discussion is designed to make the children aware of the fact that they
may encounter strangers under potentially dangerous circumstances. Students will
be taught how to avoid these situations and what actions they should take during
one of these encounters. A video of an actual abduction will be shown followed by
a discussion on what the victim should have done in this frightful situation to stay
safe. As always, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Kelly with any questions or concerns.
Notes from the Nurse
While no cases have been reported in our district, measle cases are on the rise in the Chicago area. Please click here for more information regarding measles and measles prevention.
5 Essentials Survey
Please click on the link below to a letter regarding an important survey for our school. The results of this survey will be included as a portion of our official School Report Card and school ranking next fall. As a result, your participation and input is important, as we need at least 20% of our parent population to participate.
The survey will be open until March 29, but please take a few minutes to complete the survey as soon as possible. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
