Applewood
Week of MArch 18th
Dear Applewood Families,
This week is sure a busy one!
Family Literacy Night: Please don't forget to RSVP for our Spring One School, One Book Literacy Night this Thursday.
We will also be hosting a sprit week (see the details below) to celebrate One School, One Book and National Down Syndrome Day!
Eras Tour: Keep the pledges coming for our PTO Eras Tour this Friday! Students collect pledges for dancing, reading and more(See more details below)!! All the money raised will be invested directly back into Applewood and our kiddos.
Tuesday March 19th, voters will decide on Issue 6, a RENEWAL levy for the Brunswick City School District. This RENEWAL levy will not lead to an increase in taxes. Instead, it will continue the existing $3,200,000 levy that our community supported in 1994. Click here to learn more.
"I VOTED STICKERS" - Collect your "I Voted" stickers for a chance to win a pizza party for your child's class (supported by the PTO.) If you mailed in your ballot, no problem, just sign the back of your child's paper which are due Wednesday 3/20.
GRADES: Report cards will be posted on ProgressBook by the end of the school day on Wednesday March 20th.
SUMMER CAMPS- Click here to check out some awesome Brunswick Athletic camps. Summer camps provide opportunities for kids to grow socially, cognitively, and physically while having fun.
Have a great week,

Crazy Sock Day
Join us in celebrating World Down Syndrome Day on Thursday, March 21st, by wearing your craziest socks! The choice of this date is symbolic: the 21st day of the 3rd month represents the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic anomaly causing Down syndrome. Participating in the nationwide “Lots of Socks” campaign is a fun and powerful way to show support and raise awareness for the Down syndrome community. Capture your spirit and creativity by sharing a photo of your wackiest socks. Let's fill our social media feeds with color and joy. Don't forget to tag BCSD! Together, we can make a difference. #BrunswickPRIDE #JourneyOfABlueDevil #DedicatedToEXCELLENCE

Counselors Corner 2/23/24
Classroom News This Week
I visited third, fourth, and fifth grade classrooms and we started to identify Coping Skills that we find helpful when we experience a big emotion that is uncomfortable. Students reviewed the part of our brains that stores our emotions (Hippocampus), helps us make decisions (Prefrontal Cortex), and controls our emotions (Amygdala). Understanding the functions of these parts of our brains, helps students to better recognize when they are experiencing a strong emotion. Over the last two weeks in February, we will finish up our Emotion Management Unit.
