Cedar Grove Friday Flash
March 15, 2024
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
You are invited to join fellow community members for a meet and greet with the Board of Education hosted by the Montgomery County Council of Parent Teacher-Associations (MCCPTA) on Wednesday, March 20 from 6-8 PM at the Clarksburg High School Cafeteria. You will have an opportunity to learn about schools in our West Area Montgomery County community (Clarksburg, Quince Orchard, Northwest, and Seneca Valley High School Clusters) and meet local PTA/PTSA leaders, school principals, Board of Education members, and school communities. Parents, guardians, students and community members are all welcome to attend. Volunteer opportunities and SSL hours are available for student attendees. Volunteer here.
All students, staff and families are invited to share your feedback through the MCPS School Climate Survey. We want to hear from you on how we are doing and to share your experiences and thoughts on academics, communication, and overall satisfaction with your school and the district and/or experience working at MCPS. Your input and insight is essential in helping us understand what is working well and areas of improvement. Your participation and any identifying information is completely confidential. The feedback collected will be used to inform decisions and help create a more supportive and enriching environment for students, staff, and families in our district.
Click here to access more information about the surveys.
The survey will be open until March 22, 2024 https://parentsurvey.mcpsmd.org/
We are beginning the planning stage for our Career Day, and we are looking for parents who are interested in sharing their career on Wednesday, June 5. If you or someone you know is interested in participating in Career Day, please complete the interest form linked below. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Spoales. Thank you.

Composting Program Update
During the month of February, students were able to divert 605 lbs of food from landfills and incinerators. Congratulations to our students for their efforts!
Kindergarten Registration and Welcome
The registration window for new kindergarten students opens this Monday, March 18 and continues through April 12, 2024. If you have a child who will be turning five on or before September 1, 2024, please contact Mrs. Noreen Fair at 240-740-6190 to register your child. You may also register online through the ParentVUE portal. If your family is new to MCPS, you will need to create a ParentVue account here. For more information about eligibility and the registration process, visit the MCPS Kindergarten Enrollment webpage or contact the school office.
In addition, please save the date of May 9 for our Kindergarten Welcome, which replaces the traditional MCPS kindergarten orientation that previously took place during the school day. Two information sessions at 4:30-5:00 and 5:15-5:45 will be provided to families. If you know of any friends or family members who have a rising kindergarten student, please share this information with them. Thank you.
Reminder - Chromebooks for Home Use
We know that there is the possibility that MCPS will move to virtual learning should we have additional closures due to snow. If this occurs, it is important for children to have a device from which they can access learning on those days. If you do not have a device at home, this is the time to order one from our central office, as Cedar Grove will not be sending devices home. Please complete the Chromebook Form to Distribute to Families to request a home use Chromebook. It takes some time to get the home use device sent to Cedar Grove to distribute to your children, so please consider that when you decide to request a home use device.
Grade Level Newsletters
Parents, please click on your child's grade level to view class weekly newsletters. Any questions regarding the content of the newsletters should be directed to your child's teacher. Thank you.
From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
We're coming up to the last week before Spring Break and the March Media Monthly Newsletter is again updated to reflect the latest info by way of new books, our 5th grade book club, and how we're doing with the 3nd week of our March Book Madness eliminations. There are have been some surprises as the votes are tallied! Next week the ballots will open and close rapidly so that we get to our champion by Friday, since Spring break is taking a week from March this year! So please let your voters know! We're also setting the stage for our April Poetry projects and our lessons for the next few weeks will reflect that. We also only have a week until we can enjoy our Science Expo and STEM night, and we hope to see you here on the evening of March 22. Maybe come by the media bulletin board and take a peek at our March Book Madness progression! Enjoy your weekend!
Art, Music, and PE Newsletter
