Stress Less Day A Hit Once Again
Earlier this week, we held our 3rd annual Stress Less Day. This day has become part of the fabric of our school culture and is a primary component of our continuous effort to support the social and emotional health of our students (Goal #2 of the SVHS Plan for Excellence). The goals of Stress Less Day are:
- to allow students to experiences activities of their choice that are designed to promote social and emotional wellness,
- to provide students with the opportunity to work with students who they don't typically work with (social skill growth), and
- to support our school community by promoting a positive school culture.
Based on feedback forms that were distributed, 98.5% of students and 95.4% of staff members believe the day should be offered again in future years.
Thank you to everyone who made this day successful. The Sauquoit Valley PTO and the Sauquoit Valley Foundation once again made significant contributions to make this event possible. Please support the work of these outstanding organizations if you are able to do so.
You can view some photos from the day on our Instagram page.
Thank you for your continued support!

We thank Ms. Torres for taking the time to educate our school community on this important topic.
First Positive Referral Students Recognized!
SVHS has started a Positive Referral Award program! Staff members are able to nominate students for demonstrating positive behaviors. Each month, a winner will be drawn. Each winner will receive a certificate and a large cheese pizza from Charlie's Pizza in Washington Mills, courtesy of the Sauquoit Valley PTO!
Congratulations to Alesia Rabkavets - she is the first winner of our monthly Positive Referral Award! Alesia was nominated by Mrs. Hartnett for her positive relationship skills. Mrs. Hartnett writes, "Alesia is very self-aware of her studies, but when she comes to class, she listens closely to the struggles of the kids in the seats next to her. I have observed her on numerous occasions jump in to kindly support them, friend or not, and help to build their understanding and confidence. She gives her classmates time that she could be using personally." Congrats, Alesia!
The second honoree is Alex Krupa! Alex was nominated for his exceptional demonstration of self-management. Alex's dedication and commitment to his studies have not gone unnoticed. Ms. Snow had some wonderful things to say about him. She mentioned, "Alex always comes into AIS and has all of his work done. He is respectful at all times and always working towards personal goals." It is evident that Alex's hard work and positive attitude have made a lasting impression on both his peers and teachers!
Congrats to our winners! Thank you, as always, to the PTO, and thank you to Ms. Leone for starting this program!
Four Students Attend Athletic Leadership Conference in Cooperstown
In a bid to enhance their leadership skills and foster personal growth, four students, Brayden Maltese, Braden Regetz, Jamie Allen, and Julia Zegarelli, recently had the opportunity to attend an athletic leadership conference at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, NY. This unique program aimed to provide high school athletes in the area with valuable training and guidance to become effective leaders both on and off the field.
The athletic leadership conference, hosted by Cooperstown Central School, brought together talented student athletes from various high schools in the region. The program was designed to equip these young individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel not only in their respective sports but also in their personal lives.
During the conference, the students had the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities and workshops aimed at developing their leadership skills. Some of the highlights of the program included:
- interactive workshops on effective communication, goal setting, and decision-making
- team-building exercises to foster collaboration and enhance problem-solving abilities
- inspirational talks by renowned athletes and coaches who shared their personal experiences and insights
- leadership seminars focused on building self-confidence, resilience, and character development

She earns her good grades by asking for feedback and making improvements, as well as spending the necessary extra time during study halls or AIS without needing to be reminded. Assignments that challenge her do not stop Angelina from wanting to do her best work. I am so proud of the great efforts she makes in the face of adversity. This grit will undoubtedly lead her to success in life.” Angelina will receive a certificate and a $25 Amazon gift card. Congrats, Angelina!

Marketing Students Complete Project
The Principles of Marketing class recently participated in a marketing campaign project. Students were tasked with developing a product to make and creating a marketing plan to promote their product. Students followed the outline below.
What is the Business Mission, What is the Food Product, Name of the Food Product, Who would be your Target Market and why, How would you go about getting your supplies to make the product, Consider Partnerships, Who is your Competition, What is the Slogan or Hook, What Ideas do you have to create value for the customer, and Supply Chain.
Once the students finalized their product and marketing campaign, we met in the middle school foods lab to make the product.
The students chose Oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies. The name of the product was EdgHawk Energy Bites. Our logo was EDGENERGY. The slogan was Feel the Edge.
The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience. It was a great way to utilize our marketing curriculum to create a meaningful hands-on project. We were also able to incorporate many of the Power Skills. It was a lot of fun with a great group of students.

Several of our students recently joined high school librarian Mrs. Babbie on a field trip to the Barnes and Noble, as well as, Keaton and Lloyd bookstores where they got to help select books for the high school library. Thanks to a generous donation from the Sauquoit Valley PTO, participating students were each given a Barnes and Noble gift card so that they could also choose books for their own personal libraries!
