Signs and Symptoms
~ they don't respond to their name by 12 months of age
~ don't show interest in objects by 14 months
~ don't play pretend by 18 months
~ avoid eye contact and want to be alone
~ have trouble understanding other peoples feelings
~ delayed speech and language skills
~ repeat words or phrases over and over
~ give unrelated answers to questions
~ get upset by minor changes
~ have obsessive interests
~ flap their hands, rock their body, or spin in circles
~ have unusual reactions to the way things sound, smell, taste look or feel.
causes of autism
There are no known causes for autism. research suggests that it might be genetic.
Long and Short term affects
Most children who are diagnosed with autism are able to do therapy that will help them to improve social and motor skills and go on to live happy and normal lives. Some of the effects of autism may include:
- Social isolation
- Difficulty making and keeping friends
- Troubled having romantic relationships
- Lowered self-confidence and self-esteem
- Depression
- Difficulties adapting to changing life circumstances
- Anxiety
possible treatments for autism
parents can have a therapist come to their house to deliver services.
