Pinkston Feeder Pattern
Week At A Glance - January 11, 2015
Core Beliefs
Core Beliefs
Our main purpose is to improve student academic achievement.
Effective instruction makes the most difference in student academic performance.
There is no excuse for poor quality instruction.
With our help, at risk students will achieve at the same rate as non-at risk students.
Staff members must have a commitment to children and a commitment to the pursuit of excellence.

TIERED Campuses and TIERED CIC Professional Development:
Email from J.V.G. on Friday, January 8, 2015 - You received an email regarding tiered CIC PD. The tiers for our feeder pattern is listed below
Tiered campuses are:
Tier 1 - Carr, Carver, Earhart, Allen & DeZavala (2x a month)
Tier II - Stevens Park, Quintanilla, Pinkston (1x a month)
Tier III - Lanier, Arcadia Park, Martinez, DESA (Just in Time trainings)
Tier II and III can attend the Tier I trainings if they wish, but are not mandatory.
Campus/Feeder ACP results
I've included the campus and feeder pattern ACP results in the google folder for this week. It's always important to review comparison data to have a benchmark on how your school is progressing compared to other schools. It's also good to see how the feeder pattern is performing as a whole. This can help with vertical articulation as well.
Our secondary schools will partner with the North Dallas feeder schools which will provide an opportunity to review comparison data. The district will provide comparison data district-wide once the corrections and make up's are completed; however, that will most likely not be posted for awhile, so for now we will use our elementary comparison data and North Dallas secondary schools for comparison data.
ACP Action Plan/Next Steps
Over the week, campus teams developed next steps to ensure learning meets/exceed the expectation. Some campuses shared their campus action plan/next steps during my campus visit. I would like each campus to have an action plan based on the analysis you conducted last week with your staff.
The written support action plan will be specifically for grades 3-5; 6-8 and EOC content areas based on ACP data and should include:
Tiered teachers based on ACP data Tier I most need and Tier 3 least support (trying to align with CIC PD campus Tiers)
What specific support will struggling teachers receive?
How will student learning be compensated, in the presence of ineffectiveness?
What professional development will be conducted as a result of the root cause of your data?
What will be the difference in the type of support offered to the different tiers? Be specific.
The plan should be well thought out and specific on how you will support individual teachers to improve effectiveness and achievement. Teachers should be tiered based on PERCENT PASSING ACP data of the subject area(s) they teach.
STAAR/EOC Written Tutoring/Intervention Action Plan
What will the second semester of instruction look like?
How will you ensure that effective intervention is being provided?
What will extra time and support look like on your campus?
What type of creative scheduling will you employ?
How will CIC & AF support this process? What role will they play?
Guidance: Backward map from the EOC/STAAR testing date for each tested area to determine how many instructional days each teacher will have with students. Your plan should be a campus intervention plan (based on the identified areas) where you describe how support student learning will be supported.
Due Date - January 19th
Index 2 - Progress
I have included the Index 2 projection data for elementary and middle schools. Your students are listed with their results from last year and the scale score point and raw scores needed to meet and exceed expectation. This is good data to share with your teachers to assist them with creating classroom and individual student goals.
Intensive Support Network (ISN)
As members of the Dallas ISD Intensive Support Network (ISN), we will begin implementing our new system for curriculum planning and assessment for the fourth six weeks.
- The expectation is that all campuses will follow the district curriculum map and utilize the digital pacing guides for planning and instruction. The Teaching and Learning department will develop 3 week and 6 week assessments (high schools decision not finalized). We will utilize All In Learning to capture assessment data from all campuses. Our feeder pattern data and progress monitoring will be shared (overall and by campus) with the superintendent and assistant superintendent following each assessment.
- Each campus is expected to have a data room and student profile system. Each campus is expected to develop a system for student management of learning – individual student profiles and goal setting. A template for student profiles will be provided or you can create your own based upon the established criteria.
- I2020 Implementation Status Meetings – The roundtable status presentations will be held monthly for IR and Tier 1 campuses and each 6 weeks for Tier 2 and Tier 3 campuses. IR campuses will also provide information regarding the status of implementation and progress monitoring based upon the Targeted Improvement Plan.
- Writing Plans – Tier 2 & 3 campuses will have the option of utilizing the campus writing plan or the feeder pattern writing plan. Tier 1 campuses will follow the feeder pattern STAAR writing plan. Tier 2 and Tier 3 campuses can continue to follow campus writing plans if the campus principal can provide evidence of student success. Writing Walks and Portfolio Reviews- we will visit each campus to review student writing samples and writing classrooms. The writing plan calendar will include classroom expectations and the dates for the Writing Walks and Portfolio Review.
- Professional Learning Community Meetings – All campuses are expected to conduct weekly professional learning community meetings. The executive director, feeder coordinator or academic facilitator will attend weekly PLCs at TIER 1 campuses to provide assistance and support for targeted grade levels/content areas.
FYI - Outcomes progress monitoring – The Intensive Support Network is working with Assessment and Accountability to compile a comprehensive six weeks report that captures data related to the I2020 goals. The report will include data points such as I-SIP, SRI, Achieve 3000, attendance, failure rate, discipline and assessment data.
All in Learning :
In order to pull data to include in the I 2020 report, we will need to have universal labeling.
Please code/title your 3 week and 6 week district provided common assessments as follows:
3 Week Interim - 4th six weeks
6 Week CA - 4th six weeks
3 Week Interim - 5th six weeks
6 Week CA - 5th six weeks
3 Week Interim - 6th six weeks
Feeder Pattern Writing Look Fors
4th, 7th & English I/II should be able to articulate the campus/feeder writing plan and actively implementing the components. Each campus should evidence of:
- Writing Rubrics - students can articulate the difference between progressing, proficient and advanced levels of writing based on the STAAR rubric
- Scheduled time for teachers to calibrate student writing
- Show students exemplar writing samples and discuss what elements make them exemplar (available on My Data Portal)
- Exemplars are showcased in the classrooms and throughout the hallways
- Teacher/Student feedback conferences based on their graded writing samples (noted in the schedule)
- Large posted STAAR rubric in the classroom
- Include Virtual Field Trips - students can write on those experiences (example of sea shore). Many times the elected prompts are based on experiences our student have not been exposed to, so the virtual fieldtrips offer the exposure.

Performance Descriptors
TEA provides performance descriptors for each core content and grade level. The descriptors help teachers ensure their lessons and instructional delivery are at the rigor level of the TEK. All campuses should ensure teachers are using the performance descriptor documents to develop their lessons and create their DOL. The document is in this week's Google folder.
Data Templates - The next Data Meeting templates are included in this week's Google folder for your review. You will find a sample of an elementary, middle and high school template. The data will be uploaded for you by close of day Friday, January 15th. data meetings are scheduled:
January 25th @ Arcadia Park 8:30 - 10:30 - Carr, Arcadia Park, DeZavala, Lanier, Allen
January 22nd @ Stevens Park 2:00 - 4:00 - Carver, Martinez, Earhart, Stevens Park
January 26, 2016 @ North Dallas 10:00 - 12:00 - QMS, DESA, Pinkston
January Feeder Pattern Meeting - Thursday, January 14th
We will have a joint feeder pattern meeting with North Dallas Feeder Pattern this month and learn from Tammy Heflebower. Tammy is a fantastic presenter. I had an opportunity to work with her in California and all the principals who participated in the cadre left with great strategies around data. This month's meeting will be the full day 8:15AM - 3:00PM. The training is schedule off site at a church close to the Ross building. I'll have Eliza send out an invite with the address.

Elementary 3-5 Literacy Cadre Calendar Update - Please ensure you have the following dates calendared for the Literacy Cadre: Jan 13, Feb 10, Mar 9, April 13, May 18 and June 1 - 2:00PM-5:00PM ---- The updated powerpoint is in this week's Google folder. Please give Christian the names of the coach and 2 teachers who will participate in the cadre training for grades 3-5. It will be important to embed the turnkey PD's into your campus PD plan. The 3 teachers should have an opportunity the following week to provide the campus reading teachers (good idea to include SS teachers) this PD. An important aspect that routinely gets missed is follow through and monitoring of frequency and quality of implementation. Please ensure you have submitted your attendees names via our google link:

Special Education
In response to feedback from the Special Ed Access 2020 meetings, the Special Education Department is working to provide more specific information regarding projected student enrollments and profiles before sending official communication to parents/teachers. With this, the timeline has changed. Notification was sent to principals, but I'm sending in case you didn't see the communication.
Please make note of the following reminders and changes to the communication timeline.
- Teachers and parents will not receive information regarding Destination:ACCESS this week, week of 01/04/16. We are now targeting the week of February 1.
- A revised communication timeline and additional plan information will be provided following the completion of projections.
- Students receiving services in Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) programs will not change campuses as a result of Destination:ACCESS for SY2016-2017.
- Destination:ACCESS does not mean full inclusion for all students. Special education and related services (including transportation) will continue to be provided as outlined in each students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Principal Meeting - January 20th 1:00PM - 5:00PM. We have a location change for principal meetings. Eliza will send an invite with the new location and address. We are in for a treat---- we will have Doug Reeves, (Yes "The Doug Reeves") sharing his research and time has been reserved for you to ask him questions. I'll scan some of his materials and place it in this week's folder for your review. It won't be there until Monday.
Mid-Year Review - I will send out invites for Part 2 of the Mid year beginning January 19th. I'll start with the campuses I met with prior to break - Pinkston, Arcadia Park, Martinez, Allen, DESA & Stevens Park. The other campuses will be scheduled the last week of January and 1st week of February.
Achieve 3000
If you need support with Achieve 3000, please contact Delma Martinez at demartinez@dallasisd.org. She is our internal expert and will help you trouble shoot. Please share with her highlights as well. This is a new program and we are all learning. Delma will share highlights learned that can make life easier on teachers with all schools. I included a report that shows holiday usage data from December 15th through January 6th for your review.
Failure Rate
Review failure rates to ensure failures are decreasing from the previous six weeks. Remind your teachers of the policy and the failure plans that must be developed when the failure rate exceeds the threshold.
Updates/Action Requested:
Wave 2 Update: As of today, 27% of Wave 2 teachers have started their application and 3% have submitted.
Deadline: The application submission deadline for Wave 2 is next Thursday, January 14 at noon.
Reminder: Wave 2 DTR teachers consist of teachers who went through DTR last year and earned distinguished status AND teachers with no prior TEI data including teachers who are new to Dallas ISD, received “no level” or did not receive a scorecard.
DTR Wave 2
Please encourage your Wave 2 teachers to submit an application to ensure they have the opportunity to be recognized and rewarded through the DTR process. Below are a few suggestions of ways to support your Wave 2 teachers as they complete their applications:
Send personal email messages to your Wave 2 teachers and remind them of the upcoming application deadline on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at noon. For your convenience, TEI created a template with a list of email addresses for the Wave 2 teachers from our feeder (in google folder). Feel free to personalize the email message as you see fit.
Provide coverage to allow teachers the opportunity to complete their application during the work day
Host an application "party" where teachers can collaborate when completing their applications
Share the following resources with your teachers: DTR Video, DTR One-Pager, DTR-Rubric and DTR FAQ
