Benefield Parent Newsletter
September 2018
Greetings Parents-
It continues to be an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of such an exemplary and student centered learning community. Overall things are going well at Benefield. We have been blessed with 1250 students who come to school eager and ready to learn each day.
Students in grade 1st, 2nd, and 5th grades are taking the CogAT Test this week. Students in grade 2nd and 5th grades will be taking the Iowa Test the week of September 24 -27. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time and is present every day. Due to changes to the master schedule during testing, parents are not allowed to eat lunch with students during all standardized assessments.
Benefield has partnered with Teachers College Reading and Writing Project and will serve as an affiliate school this year. The mission of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project is to help young people become avid and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers. This affiliation will include over ten visits from staff developers from Columbia University Teachers College in New York City. Highly trained staff developers will work alongside teachers and students at Benefield to unleash our reading and writing superpowers. More details will be shared later.
Please keep reading to find out what is going on in and around Benefield.
Proud to be your principal,
Mrs. Stevens

Research has shown that students who use Imagine Language and Literacy for 20 hours make at least one year's growth in literacy.
Please contact our LSTC, Anthony Hossack at Anthony_Hossack@gwinnett.k12.ga.us, to find out how to use Imagine Language and Literacy at home.
