President Lincoln Shot Dead
April 15, 1865
John Wilkes Booth, after shooting the president jumped from the the Presidential box and shattered a couple bones in his leg. In doing so this probably led to the capture of him. President Lincoln was not the only target that night his Secretary or State had his throat slit by Lewis Paine who was hanged a couple months later for his participation in the assassination conspiracy. Booth was captured in a barn in Bowling Green, Virginia and was eventually shot and killed.
