Feb/March
Late winter
It's hard to believe March is already here...the third quarter flew by! February was full of fun activities for our students. Thank you to Ms. Griffiths, Ms. Moore and our PTO for organizing a super fun Read Across America Week and a very successful Book Fair. Another shout-out to Mr. Allgood for organizing the StoryTeller Assembly. We appreciate everyone who participated and made this time special for our students. During March, we have Parent Teacher Conferences, Spring pictures, and Spring Break. Our 3rd grade students will also be working hard to prepare for the Ohio State Tests coming up in April and May.
As always, we encourage communication between you and your child's teacher or the administration with any questions or concerns you may have. Be sure to download the HLSD Mobile app for quick access to updates regarding school events and more. Feel free to stop by or contact us at 491-8044 if there is anything you need.

Black History Month Visitor
HES hosted Lyn Ford for a first annual visit on February 29th. She had so many different Affrilachian stories, every group of students (3). Students had an amazing time and were super engaged and respectful! Lyn comes from a heritage revolving around Black Appalachian and Native American roots. Many of the stories Lyn tells today come from the personal accounts of her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Our Busy Classrooms!
Mrs. Dugan's class
Mrs. Dugan's class working with a small group utilizing UFLI! The kids were engaged and working hard on reinforcement of foundational literacy skills! It was an all around awesome job by Mrs. Dugan and her kiddos!
Mrs. Knorr's Writing Block
During Mrs. Knorr's writing block, students were engaged, excited, and finding a real love for writing. Mrs. Knorr worked on synonyms, creating strong topic sentences, made connections with the students about the passage they're reading, and also built vocabulary and background knowledge.
Ms. Snyder's Room!
In Ms. Snyder's class, students were always engaged, constantly learning, and interacting with each other. These lessons were filled with high interest topics and the differentiated workstations where students got to enjoy social communication skills.
High School Readers
Our High School Administration team and 40 students came to school on Friday, March 1st to read to our classes! Student's were elated to have such positive Hamilton Ranger Leaders spend quality time in their classrooms!
Meet Our Teachers and Staff
Jackie McNamee
Grade: 1st Grade
Years Teaching: 20 years
Most Memorable Teaching Moment: Some of my favorite memories of teaching come from the connections I have made with my students and their families. I always enjoy when a student comes back to visit or I am able to see them at graduation. Watching them grow in first grade and beyond is always one of my favorite moments.
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: My favorite teacher was my first grade teacher, Mrs. Kantner. She helped me learn that it was okay to make mistakes and helped me develop a love of learning.
Favorite Things (Favorite Sweet Treat): Reese's (or anything with peanut butter and chocolate)
Fun Fact: My favorite animal is an elephant. One of my favorite memories was being able to not only pet an elephant, but to be able to give it a bubble bath!
Madison Hayes
Grade: 1st Grade
Years Teaching: 2 years
Most Memorable Teaching Moment: My most memorable teaching moment is student teaching at Hamilton in first grade. I student taught with Mrs. Geary and I was lucky enough to then get a first grade class of my own right next door to her. She taught me a lot about teaching and helped me grow, and she made me want to pursue teaching at Hamilton!
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: My favorite teaching growing up was Mr. Dennis, my 10th grade english teacher. If you were to imagine a "cool" teacher, that would be exactly him. He had a very out of the box way of teaching and made it a point of making a connection with each student. He also had a project based learning approach as well, and taught us lessons that helped us relate more to the real world. It made the typical english class more exciting and I felt I succeeded more in that environment!
Favorite Things (Favorite Sweet Treat): Brownies
Fun Fact: My sophomore year of college, I was apart of the Disney College Program and worked at Disney's Hollywood Studios for a semester.
Christy DeVine
Position: Secretary
Years Experience: 32 Years total, 17 years at Hamilton Elementary
Enjoy Most About Your Job: So many things.....My Staff, they are my family and are so amazing! Seeing the kids each day, enjoying the little girls that come in to show me their "Red" lipstick that they put on to look like me, snow days, continued visits from former elementary students who are now in Middle/High School and the support from our community.
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: 2nd and 3rd grade teacher, Patty Warren. She was so sweet and listened to our needs. Loved making life size Wizard of Oz characters in her class. I was so happy when she moved to 3rd grade and I was in her class again.
Favorite Things (Favorite Sweet Treat): Chocolate Chip Cookies
Fun Fact: I am an only child :)

Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
