Weekly Family Update
Week of Monday August 14th-Friday August 18th
Dear Families,
Welcome back to school! The first official day is Wednesday August 16th, but I wanted to get some information out to you before then so you can focus on that day without distraction!
This year is going to be great as we work together to make homeschooling productive, engaging, and exciting. You will show your kids what lifelong learning really means as you take them on adventures, visit historical and scientific collections, do hands-on projects, read books, and discuss what is going on in your hometown and around the globe. Learning is universal and doesn't just happen at a desk. Your kids will see the beauty in education as they taste, touch, hear, and feel the world around them. I hope that you have a successful year of learning, growth, and exploration!
The first learning period sample that I will collect this year is in Language arts. As a teacher, I want to see your student's own work. Share with me a novel piece of writing that has not been carefully revised and corrected. I can best help you help them if I accurately see what they can do on their own. Since you are just beginning your curriculum and might not have a completed assignment yet, I am including three writing prompts for you to choose from (tk-8th grade), have your student complete one, and return it to me! You are also encouraged to use a circle map to help get the creativity flowing. I can't wait to learn more about your student/s as I read their work!!
Prompts:
Imagine that you are an animal in the zoo. What type of animal are you? How do you feel about your home in the zoo? How do you feel about people that visit and watch you?
Write a letter to yourself about your favorite things (place, food, hobbies) and what you want to learn about this year. You can read this at the end of the year and see what has changed!
tk-k Draw a picture of something that you did this summer and write a sentence about what you drew. (parent can help with writing if needed)
