Reminders for Dismissal
For the safety of all children, it is requested that parents who wish to pick up their children to attend after-school appointments do so before 3:10 p.m. Students will not be released between 3:15 p.m. - 3:25 p.m. When picking up students prior to dismissal, parents must sign them out in the office. The student will be called from the classroom to the office. For safety reasons, no student will be dismissed directly from the classroom. Students will not be released to unknown parties.
If there are any changes to your child’s regular p.m. schedule, please have all arrangements made before the start of the school day. If it is necessary for a student to be picked up by someone other than the parent, the school must receive written permission from the parent. Identification must be provided at the time of pickup. If in a special circumstance, a student who normally walks, must ride a bus, or vice versa, the student must bring in a note from the parents to be signed by a member of the administration or classroom teacher. If an emergency should arise during the day which changes the dismissal plan for your child, please call the school as soon as possible, but no later than 3:00 p.m., to ensure adequate notice for your child.

Switcheroo
Kindergarten students participated in a “Switcheroo” process during the first week of school. This is a process that Fields Road and other MCPS schools have used and found extremely beneficial when creating balanced and effective classes for the school year.
During the first week of kindergarten, students were assigned to a homeroom teacher. This was their “home base” for the first week of school. The children reported to this classroom teacher every morning and were dismissed from this classroom each afternoon.
Throughout the week, Fields Road staff members observed the academic strengths and needs of all students. Interactions between students and adults were also observed. This allowed the staff to develop balanced classes that will promote success for the students throughout the year. On Friday, September 6th, the students participated in “The Great Switcheroo”! This was an exciting event that announced each student's teacher and classroom for the remainder of the school year. The teachers were thrilled to receive their students!
