April Activities in PE
Grades 3-5 will be taking their FitnessGram Tests. Ask them to show you some of their 5 test skills (Push-Up, Curl-Up, Trunk Raise, Shoulder Flexibility, and maybe you can do some Pacer’s in the backyard).
Grades K-5 will be working on tennis skills, jump rope skills, and soccer skills. Also, all of K-5 students will be seeing how high and far they can jump when they do their Standing Broad Jumps and Vertical Jumps.
April Challenges from P.E.
Make a plan for swimming. Please consider swim lessons and/or swim team for your kids. Swimming is such a fun and healthy activity, especially in Texas. And, becoming a well-trained and strong swimmer can be a life saver.
ART
Kinder - 2nd Parents,
Art to Remember orders have arrived! Orders shipped to the school will be sent home as soon as possible. Thanks to all who ordered keepsakes and supported the Riojas art program!
EVENT DATE CHANGE
Parents, 4th Grade’s Fine Arts Night has been moved by one week. The new date will be Tuesday, April 24th, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Following the music performance, "Dancing through the Decades," please join us for a “gallery walk” in the school’s main hallway. 4th grade will be displaying their favorite pieces of artwork. We hope to see you there!
In the ART room...
Just in time for spring, 3rd grade is drawing and painting from observation to create bright, colorful "Amate bark" paintings.
4th grade is diligently working on "functional" pieces of art, experimenting with a range of fun fibers and weaving techniques. We are hoping to share our weavings during the upcoming Fine Arts Night.
5th grade is learning about the ancient artistic tradition of celtic knot-making and creating a series of paper constructions in response.
K - 1st grade has been exploring the concept of collage, along with the artistic contributions of collage artist Romare Bearden. 2nd grade is also studying collage, as well as the components of landscape art and the Art Element of Space.
MUSIC
WOW! It’s hard to believe we are in our last push to the end of the school year, but the learning keeps going until the very end!
4th grade will be singing “Dancing through the Decades” concert on April 24th at 6:00p.m. Please have the students in the music room by 5:45 p.m. (Attire is white shirt and jeans).
In our older grades (3-5), the last few weeks are dedicated to instruments.
3rd grade will learn about percussion instruments with xylophones and metallophones.
4th grade will learn about woodwind instruments with recorders (reminder: if you purchased a recorder through the school, the recorders will not be sent home until the last day of our recorder unit).
5th grade will learn about string instruments as we strum our way to the end of the year with ukuleles.
In our younger grades (K-2), the students will still be building their foundation of music with notating, music games, and preparing for the next grade level in music! 2nd grade will also be learning how to play “Happy Birthday” on the piano.
THANK YOU to all the parents of the younger grades who came out to join music class with your child. It was fun having you in the class and I hope you enjoyed it as well.
Spring Book Fair!
Parents, get ready for our Spring Book Fair - Paws for Reading! And we would love a picture of your child reading to a pet or stuffed animal to help decorate our library for Book Fair. Send it to Mrs. Lybecker by April 12th. Book Fair will also be open during the Carnival on April 14th! *Pictures will not be returned, so send a duplicate if needed.
Students will be allowed to come any time during the week to make purchases as long as they have money and have completed their work in class.
