A Note From Mrs. Howard...
Hello March...let the madness begin!
Thank you to everyone who made it in for Parent teacher Conferences in February. It is always nice to sit down with parents and share the amazing things the students have been accomplishing as well as hearing your perspective on things. If you didn't get the chance to meet with your child's teacher, it's not too late! Please reach out to set up a time!
Typically, when thinking of March Madness, NCAA Basketball comes to mind. However, March Madness can mean many things to different people. At Norwich School, the madness begins with sub state and state basketball games, Read Across America Week and finishing up the 3rd quarter. It means spring break, daylight savings time, starting the last 9 weeks of school and the beginning of track, softball and baseball season. It means we have 9 weeks left to ensure student's have learned the essential standards for their grade level and classes. It means it's time to take the Kansas State Assessments and of course preparing for prom!
Did anyone get else get tired just from thinking about it? It is called March Madness for a reason and we wouldn't want it any other way! No matter how busy, I look forward to longer days, warmer weather and the excitement of school in the spring!
KANSAS STATE ASSESSMENTS
The Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) is a set of untimed, computerized tests in English language arts (ELA), mathematics, and science. The test content fully aligns to the Kansas Content Standards. The Achievement and Assessment Institute (AAI) at the University of Kansas develops and delivers each assessment.
Starting the last week of March and going through April 19th, Norwich students will take part in the KAP. Students in grades 3– 8 and 10 will take assessments in ELA and mathematics. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 will take an assessment in science. These are computerized tests allow students to demonstrate knowledge in various ways. In addition to multiple-choice items, students see technology enhanced (TE) items. Depending on the subject area, TE items might include ordering, matching, or completing a matrix.
How can you help your student get his or her best KAP score?
- Encourage your student to do her or his best on the assessments.
- Talk with the classroom teacher about ways to develop your student’s critical-thinking skills.
- Ask your student questions that require explanations and cannot be answered with a single word; have them write lists, letters, stories, or podcast scripts; and solve math problems using everyday materials, such as road maps, sporting event results, or recipes.
- Establish time for your student to read and provide engaging and appropriately challenging reading materials.
- Make sure your student is in attendance the days and times of testing.

Enhancing High School Physics and Chemistry Curriculum with Calculators
Exciting news! Thanks to a generous grant from the South Central Community Foundation, our Physics and Chemistry classrooms are now equipped with scientific calculators, transforming the way our students experience science.
Key Highlights:
Bridging Theory and Practice: Calculators streamline complex calculations, allowing students to focus on understanding scientific principles.
Enhancing Problem-Solving: Students are diving into intricate problem-solving, analyzing data, and applying principles to real-world scenarios.
Graphing Capabilities: Visual representations of functions enhance understanding, making concepts like motion graphs and reaction rates more tangible.
Real-World Applications: Calculators simulate professional settings, preparing students for higher education and future careers.
Individualized Learning: Students progress at their own pace, reinforcing foundational skills or exploring advanced concepts.
Teacher and Student Feedback: Educators report a dynamic and interactive learning environment, while students express newfound confidence and excitement for science.
Stay tuned for updates on how our students continue to shine!
Junior Class would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our fundraisers and concession stands this year. All money raised the students have worked hard at raising is being used to go towards Prom that will be held on April 13th. We are so lucky to have a community that supports our school.
If you have vases from your Valentine flowers the Junior class will help you take them off your hands.. If you have any that you would like to rehome, please drop off at the school or they may be dropped off with junior class sponsor, Charlotte Laughery any time throughout the school year.

At any time if you feel your family may qualify for free or reduced price lunches, you can apply. Yearbook
Yearbook Staff Streaming Strong!
Upload Photos NOW to YBK+!
Yearbook staff has set up YBK+ again for students, parents, and teachers to upload 10 photos to be seen digitally with their portrait. YBK+ allows the yearbook to be more digitally interactive, and it is a way to see more of your student in the yearbook. Click the image, link, or scan the code to get started with YBK+ and begin uploading your photos NOW to “My Year”!
Yearbook Club members are competing to see how many students/parents they can get to upload photos. Reach out to a club member for assistance and help them win the contest!

Yearbook Staff & Club Members NEEDED For Next Year!
KEEP the student-led class/club combination going! The yearbook staff is the decision-making board that takes the yearbook course every day to receive an elective credit, attends yearbook camp Aug. 5th - 7th, and the possibility of lettering. A core group of upperclassmen (10-12) is NEEDED to replace the leadership that has begun this student-led club. Other 9-12 high school students have the opportunity to sign up as yearbook club members. They participate and help in a variety of ways, but are not in the course. If they are in the club several years and help a great deal they may possibly letter. Students interested in being on staff need to apply and pre-enroll in Digital Media and Design (aka Yearbook) through Xello. (9th graders can be part-time staff upon adviser approval). Please encourage students to apply for yearbook staff or join the club. To apply, email Mrs. Brewster at tbrewster@knusd331.com and ask for an application form. Let Mrs. Brewster know if you have questions.
