OMS Library Update
November & December 2018
Students Create Cookie Caster Video Tutorial for Black Mountain Primary School
Bradyn P, Bradley C, and Noah B (7th grade students) collaborated to create a video tutorial for cookie caster, an on-line based design program which allows students to 3D a cookie cutter. These students planned and filmed this tutorial at the request of Ms. Morel, the librarian at Black Mountain Primary School. Ms. Morel is using the tutorial to help her first graders learn to design a 3D print.
7th Grade Math Enrichment
As part of an enrichment activity, seventh grade students attempted to solve real-life math puzzles that were Thanksgiving based using unit rate in order to break-out.
Scholastic Book Fair
Despite several calendar set backs due to Winter Storm Diego, the library hosted a Scholastic book fair. All students attended the fair with their language arts classes.
Hour of Code 2018
Ms. Phelps' students ventured to the library to try out their coding skills during the annual, international Hour of Code event. Each student used block based coding to create a dance party.
Lyric is a Winner!
Lyric was allowed to choose a prize when she checked out a winner book. Approximately 50 books are marked "winner" at any time. Students who check out these books get a prize.
Ms. Ayers and Christopher E meet Amy Cherrix
After local author Amy Cherrix presented to the 6th grade about her book, Backyard Bears, Ms. Ayers and Christoper E purchased autographed copies of her books. Ms. Cherrix' presentation included various examples of wild animals in urban areas, focusing mainly on Buncombe County's black bears.
Grayson Prints His Design
Sixth grade student, Grayson H., worked at home with his father to design a model car chassis. He printed his design using the school 3D printer. The 3D printer is open to all OMS students.
