March News
Greetings HES Parents and Families!
Welcome to another edition of "The Principal's Pen"! Thank you for reading. Stay informed and connected with our concise monthly updates!
We appreciate your continued support and commitment to ensuring that all students at Hatch Elementary continue to grow socially, emotionally, and academically!
Spring is Upon Us!
We have a lot going on this month and for the rest of this semester! Thank you for taking the time to read our monthly newsletters so that you may be better informed about all that is happening at Hatch Elementary School.
In this month's newsletter you will find information about IStation testing, Kinder Registration for the 2024-2025 school year, Spring Break, Book Fair, our Color Walk fundraiser, Easter Break, as well as some other exciting events that we have planned for the Spring! Please make sure to read the entire newsletter to prepare!
Reminder about Attendance
It is imperative that all students come to school every day, unless, of course, they are sick. We appreciate your help and support in ensuring that students don't miss any instruction. In these early elementary years, and even throughout the rest of school, face-to-face instruction and engagement between teacher and students is imperative! In addition, every skill builds on the last, so it's extremely important that students are in class everyday; otherwise, they begin to get behind.
How can you help? Please make sure to schedule all routine appointments after school or during breaks. Please make sure to plan vacations and trips during times that we are not in school. It may be tempting to leave a day earlier or to return a couple days later, but remember that every day your child is out of school is another setback for him/her. We appreciate your support and understanding, as we finish up this school year.
We will begin testing again during the week of March 4th. Please make sure that your child attends school and arrives on time. Thank you for your support!
Please continue scrolling for some important information about events, breaks, and opportunities to engage at Hatch Elementary! We look forward to seeing more of you this month! ❤️🐻
March Testing
March IStation Testing
We will begin our IStation reading and math testing for this month on Monday, March 4th.
Please help us in ensuring that your child is present, on time, and ready to do his/her best. These assessments are very important, as they serves as a measure of what students have learned over the course of the last semester.
In addition, please make sure that your child gets a good night's sleep and arrives to school on time, not just on testing days, but every day. We appreciate your help in ensuring that every child learns and succeeds at Hatch Elementary! ❤️

Some Other Important Information...
Tardies:
- In order for students to learn, we need your help in ensuring that they come to school every day and that they arrive on time.
- If your child arrives to school after 8:00 am, he/she will be marked tardy and you will need to sign your child in at the front office.
- If your child accumulates 3 tardies within a month, you will receive a letter in your child's backpack.
Student Pick-up Procedures:
- Pickup for 1st and 2nd grade students is on the cafeteria side.
- Pickup for kinder students and their siblings is at the staff parking lot.
- Only adults 18 and over who are on the student's emergency contact list may pick up a student from school.
Snack Shack and Awards Assemblies
Our next Awards Assembly will be on Friday, February 2, 2024. Assemblies will take place every Friday thereafter (unless otherwise noted), through the end of April 2024. Our next Snack Shack will be on Friday, February 9th. Snack Shack will occur on EVERY OTHER FRIDAY through the end of April 2024.
ATTENDANCE
We will continue to closely monitoring student attendance. If your child is absent for three consecutive days, you will receive a phone call and will need to provide our office with a doctor's excuse. Our attendance team will also be issuing letters and setting up meetings for further absences.
To avoid accrual of unexcused absences, please ensure that your child arrives to school ON TIME every day, unless he/she is ill. If this is the case, you will need to provide the office with a doctor's note within 3 days. We need students to come to school, on time, in order to learn. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making this possible!
Just a few reminders...
- The bell to begin class is at 8:00 am. Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time every day.
- Any time your child is absent from school, it is best practice to communicate with your child's teacher and the front office as to the reason he/she is absent. On the third consecutive absence, we will need a doctor's excuse to have the absences excused. Kids need to be in school to learn, but if they are not feeling well, we encourage you to have them seen by a doctor. Thank you for your understanding.
- Students are not allowed to bring any devices (cell phones, smart watches, etc.), toys (including balls or games), lip gloss, chap stick, candy, full size bags of chips or soda to school. If a staff member does find that a student has one of these items, it will be confiscated and you will be notified to pick it up in the front office at your earliest convenience.
- We appreciate all of our families and everything that you all do for your children! Thank you!
Kindest regards,
Mrs. Amy Marquez
