Important Updates
A HUGE Congratulations and THANK YOU to EVERYONE Involved in Peter Pan
For those of you who were able to attend a performance of Peter Pan, I’m sure you can appreciate just how remarkable our students were, both the performers and the backstage crew. I was able to go to two shows… both were an amazing demonstration of the talent at Lincoln. Thank you to every student who made this show a possibility. You were INCREDIBLE!
I also want to acknowledge the hard work of each adult for their role in this production. There are too many names to mention here, but I must give a shout out to our Director, Chad Scheppner, as well as Katey Mushlin (Assistant Director), Vanessa Counte (Musical Director), Daniellle Rosario & Hydeia Muhammad (Choreographers), Lexi Pearl (Physical Theatre and Aerieal Skills), Krista Daidone (Costume Designer), Mark Engfer (Set Designer), Farley Crawford Bliss (Art Director), and last - but not least - our Producers, Gilles and Stéphanie Auffret.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!
Inappropriate Student Behavior/ Comportamiento Estudiantil Inapropiado
Recently we have been experiencing an increase in students “pantsing” other students on-campus. Please speak with your students about the consequences of this behavior. Any student that is caught engaging in this behavior will receive a minimum of a 2 day suspension. We are also required to complete paperwork for the District and your student’s file for sexual harassment. Middle school can be a tough time for our students as they are developing and going through puberty. Being exposed publicly on-campus is a behavior that will not be tolerated.

As a part of the Annual School Assessment conducted by our School Site Council (SST), I am inviting everyone to complete this short feedback form. The questions are very general; however, the information collected from this form -- in conjunction with different data sources (i.e., student achievement data) -- will be very helpful in steering us in the right direction.
Thank you for your participation.

Reminder to Students about Safety and Dangers in the Community
As a safety reminder, please be sure to have regular conversations with your child about the potential dangers present in the community. Unfortunately, no matter how wonderful our Santa Monica Community, we occasionally hear reports concerning people, vehicles, and situations that could present a concern to students.
Although it has not been officially confirmed, it was reported to us that a white van was in the vicinity of JAMS with the purpose of selling illegal substances to students. Reminding your child to remain vigilant of their surroundings -- and under NO circumstances interact with strangers -- will play a large role in their safety. If a student ever feels unsafe, or witnesses a situation that is of concern, they can approach any adult on campus (even before or after school), or enter a local business/public space and ask for help. SMPD has been notified; I will alert the community if I hear of further updates.
Strategic Planning Committee
I am excited to announce that Lincoln Middle School is embarking on a Strategic Planning process. This journey will establish short- and long-term goals for the school, as well as help us refine our Mission, Vision and Core Values.
This interest form is being shared with current, future, and past families of Lincoln Middle school. If you are interested in serving on the Strategic Planning Committee, please complete this survey.
I am holding an information meeting to present the purpose and intent of Strategic Planning on Wednesday, January 25 at 3:30 in the Library Classroom. Any LMS parent -- future, past, or present -- is welcome to attend.
Lincoln's Show on the Road for Incoming 6th Grade Students
For anyone who knows incoming 6th grade students, please remind them of the following information:
It’s that exciting time of year when we look ahead to the next school year and plan for having your child here as a Lincoln Lion in 6th grade. We invite you and your child to our “Lincoln Show on the Road” to learn more about what to expect in middle school and hear from current Lincoln students and teachers. Two options are available for this event: Via Zoom on Monday, January 30 at 6pm; or, in-person at the Lincoln Middle School Auditorium on Thursday, February 2 at 6pm.
The Lincoln Counseling Team will also visit all 5th grade classrooms to speak directly with students about Lincoln Middle School and the available elective options. The dates for these visits are 1/31 at McKinley, 2/2 at Franklin, and 2/3 at Roosevelt. A follow-up email will be sent to all families following these visits. Included in this email will be a Google form for you to review together with your child when choosing their preferred electives.
Please stay tuned for more information. We look forward to seeing you at the Show on the Road and meeting our future Lincoln Lions!

Independent School Recommendations
It is that time of year when some families choose to apply to independent schools. As a reminder, Lincoln Middle School does not provide letters of recommendation, per SMMUSD policy. Independent schools are aware of this policy and the lack of a recommendation letter from a school site does not impact the acceptance of students whose families chose this route.
