MLL State Assessment Accommodations
You will be receiving an email this week with a list of MLL students enrolled in a U.S. school on or after April 1, 2023. These students ARE NOT required to take the ELA portion of RICAS.
Please note that all Accessibility Features and Accommodations for EL Students are listed in the RIDE Accommodations and Accessibility Features Manual 2023-2024 with considerations on pages 25-27.
Here is a slide indicating available accommodations for each assessment:
We will be discussing the above in our next MLL Quarterly meeting this month.
ADULT ESL/GED Classes
Due to traffic, construction, and past weather we took a pause on Adult ESL/GED classes because of the impact it had on attendance.
We are now ready to restart and open up additional seat to new families.
We will once again be partnering with RIRAL (RI Regional Adult Learning) to provide Adult ESL classes to our families.
Classes will continue to run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6PM-8PM at Martin Middle School starting in March.
Here is the flyer to share with families. (Google Doc registration is embedded in the flyer)
Our starting date is March 12th and we will close registration on March 8th
Student Led MLL PI DAY Carnival for MLL Elementary Students
We are excited to share an awesome Math night on March 14th 5:30-7:00PM for our MLL Elementary students.
Our High School National Junior Honor Society MLL students have created a PI DAY event. We will also host a parent information session during the event to gather family feedback on district strengths and needs.
Elementary MLL teachers please share the following flyers with your K-5 MLL families:
You are also welcomed to stop by and attend.
MLL Quarterly Meetings
We will be holding our quarterly meetings this month with our MLL teachers to ensure understanding of MLL Accommodations for State Testing as well as to go over Title III and EL Categorical Funding feedback.
Please feel free to add to Agenda/Notes if there are other pertinent discussion items.
Google Meets will be held:
Elementary: Thursday March 14tth: 12:30-1:30
Middle: Wednesday March 13th: 1:30-2:30
High School: Friday March 22nd: 9:00-10:00
MLL Identity Gallery Walk
RITELL has some exciting news to share for the spring:
We will be bringing the MLL Identity Gallery Walk back to an in-person event! This event is a celebration of the rich diversity of our MLL students and families. Teachers are invited to submit student work or projects that highlight students’ pride in their identities. Projects of all sorts (and in all languages!) are welcome. More details to come - but for now, please save the date - Thursday May 9th - and start collecting student artifacts to share.
Drop boxes are ready at Narragansett, Warwick, and Cumberland Public Libraries! If you do not see the box when you go in, ask at the desk. Please group all of your submissions together and label with the school and teacher’s names. Please fill out the submission form, there is a QR code on the box as well!
For all submissions, please follow your LEA/School policies regarding sharing of student work and having names attached. Ask students if they are comfortable having their first name listed on the work, otherwise they can be made anonymous! If you are looking for a release form for families, feel free to use and translate this sample or to follow a process that your LEA/School already uses! Please ensure that submissions are submitted in the way they are to be displayed (with or without student names attached).
A drop box at South Providence Library should be available by March 8th!
If you have any questions, please email RITELL at mllgallerywalk@gmail.com :)

Any East Providence Educator can participate in an Ellevation MLL Pathway (make sure that the PD Pathway viewing/reading/reflection is done outside the contractual school day per grant)
Educators completing a Pathway (up to 3) will receive a $50 stipend.
Module pathways cover a range of topics that will help you support your multilingual learners. Each module should be completed in three parts:
1. Learn in Ellevation (45 min) (outside school hours)
2. Teach in Your Classroom
3. Reflect in Ellevation (15 min) (outside school hours)
Upon completion of each module, you will be able to download a PDF Certificate of Completion and a copy of your responses.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
