Maundy Thursday Worship
Mark 14:12-26
Be blessed, Prospect, and stay safe!
(And a BIG Thank You goes out to our communion element deliverers!)
Members of your neighborhood Community Care groups should be bringing prepackaged communion cups to your residence today.
We want to offer you communion in a safe, law abiding and "theologically correct" manner. So we have "consecrated" all of the elements at the church and they are being brought to you.
You group leader will place the elements at or near your doorstep.
They will then ring your doorbell or knock on your door before stepping back to a safe distance (which might be their vehicle).
They will wave and likely offer you a word of welcome from this safe distance before moving to their next destination. They probably won't be able to engage in a long conversation because of the many homes they are delivering to and because of our desire to keep everyone safe.
As you get ready to take communion (at the end of watching our online worship service), I would encourage you to put on some music...
Then everyone can eat the bread at the same time. (If you are alone on Thursday, say out loud, "This is the body of Christ, broken for me," remembering that Jesus loves you that much!)
Then pull up the second layer of the communion cup (parents may want to help their kids). Then, together say, "This is the blood of Christ, shed for you" before you all drink at the same time.
Once you have received both the bread and the cup, say a prayer thanking Jesus for His sacrifice on your behalf and for being the Savior and Lord of your life.
As an alternative, you might want to open all of the cups before receiving communion. Place the wafers on a plate and place the cups side-by-side. Then have members of the family serve one another in a circle. As you serve the person next to you, say, "This is the body/blood of Christ..." Go around the table serving the wafers and then the cups.
Receiving Holy Communion will certainly be different this Maundy Thursday, but it is still the same. We may not be together under one roof but God will make us oneā¦
One with Himself, one with each another, and one in our ministry to all the world.
Come Holy Spirit, Come.
Come, Lord Jesus, Come.
Amen.
If you are a friends of Prospect, but are not on one of our Community Care Team routes, communion elements will be available at the church from 5-6:00 pm tonight. Simply drive up to the church and communion elements will be brought to a table by our front/main entrance.
