International Walk to School Day
Thank you to everyone who walked, rolled, or scootered to school today and celebrated International Walk to School Day. It was fun to see the rosy cheeks on the children as they braved the cooler temperatures this morning. The students were rewarded with color changing pencils, granola bars and stickers! A big thank you to our Walking Bus Leaders and Volunteers who received our families and passed out goodies.
And with that, we’ve officially kicked off our 2019-2020 Walk & Roll season, however we still need volunteers to make it happen. We have two Walk & Roll days this month (Oct 4 & 18) and we need Walking Bus Leaders for each of our locations and 2-3 volunteers to greet our families and help pass out stickers. Please email Alison akwortman@gmail.com or Tina Tina.nordsell@gmail.com as soon as possible, to volunteer for one or both of our October walks. It’s not a lot of time and we really can’t do this without your support.
Giving Campaign Extended Through October 10th.
Thank you to all the Fammatre families that have contributed to this years Giving Campaign. So far, we have raised just over $31,000 from family contributions. However, as we have not reached our fund raising goal, the Home & School Club has extended our Giving Campaign thru October 10th. We are striving to beat the 33% family participation level of 2018. We are close, but we are only at a 26% family participation level for this year. While we recommend a donation of $300 per student, any amount you can give will benefit your child’s experience at Fammatre this year.
Meeting our fund raising goals allows the HSC to bring many wonderful items, programs and hands on experiences to all of our students. If our goals are not met the HSC will be forced to no longer 100% fund classroom supplies, field trip entrance and bus fees. You, the parent will be asked supplement these costs. Programs such as Art Vista (visual art instruction), Starting Arts (performing arts instruction), and MakerSpace may have to be reduced as well. We are close and WE CAN DO IT! Help us reach our goal!
Please visit our Giving Campaign Information page at https://www.cambriansd.org/Page/338 (click on the DONATE button) and make your donation today!
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the expenditures funded by the Home & School Club and the budgeting process we would love to have your input at our monthly meeting. Our next meeting is at 7pm on October 7th.

Emergency Comfort Kits - Due Oct., 10th
In the event of a severe earthquake or other emergency, our children may have to stay at school for a considerable length of time. We would like to be prepared in order to make our children as comfortable as possible. Therefore, parents are being asked to assemble a "comfort kit" containing items necessary for basic survival needs for nourishment and comfort.
Following is a suggested list of items which should be included. Please collect these items and send them to school at your earliest convenience in a GALLON-sized zip-locking bag. Children can help gather the items. The bags will be stored in the classrooms and returned home at year-end. Please clearly label each item with your child's name.
- Letter of comfort (sample below) - Family photo
- Small flashlight or glow-stick
- Small tissue pack
- 3-4 small non-perishable foods (check expiration dates):
beef jerky, fruit leather/rollups, sealed fruit cups (include small spoon), raisins, cheese/crackers, granola bar (nut free if you are in a nut-free classroom), 3-4 hard candies (jolly ranchers, lifesavers)
Water is not necessary as the school as stored water in the case of an emergency.
We understand that providing these kits might place a financial burden on some families. Please do the best you can. The hand-written comfort letter and picture of the family are especially important for each family to send. Fammatre HSC will help as needed. If you are able to donate additional comfort kits, all donations would be greatly appreciated. Please remember that food items must be in original packaging so that ingredient lists are available to be verified.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email the Home & School Club Vice President Meghan Metcalfe at vicepresident.fhsc@gmail.com
