2024 April Edition
Message from Principal Rowell
We hope that families enjoyed their Spring Break and found opportunities to spend time with family and friends. This week starts the fourth quarter for the 2023-24 academic school year and all spring sports are underway. The weather last week surely did not make it feel like Spring, but we are definitely looking forward to nicer temperatures and more sunshine.
As I have shared before, we appreciate these restarts, as it provides an opportunity to clear the slate and work hard to achieve a successful ending to the school year. Students are encouraged to be at school, as attendance matters, engage and keep themselves organized and on top of assignments so as to finish the last quarter strong.
Our middle school students and sophomores are entering the FORWARD Assessment season. In addition, students are also preparing for the Advanced Placement (AP) tests that start in May.
Please enjoy the April newsletter as it is filled with important information about assessments, upcoming events, planning for next year, athletics and activities.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Our goal is to build a strong partnership with families and the wider community in order to support our students and school district.
Regards,
Natasha R. Rowell, Principal

Cell Phones
Please take a moment to review the student handbook with your child for cell phone guidelines. This is a reminder to all HS students that cell phones are only allowed during passing periods and lunch. Cell phones are not allowed in the bathrooms at any time. We want to avoid situations where law enforcement becomes involved because pictures and videos are taken in bathrooms.
Use of cell phones during instructional time is at the discretion of the teacher.

Social Media
As you are aware, social media is very accessible, and can be a great resource for various reasons when used in a positive manner. We have been made aware of a few sites that have been created where students may not always be portrayed in a positive light.
It would be helpful if families would provide a few reminders about a) creating a digital footprint that becomes permanent - only post material that you want others to see and b) this information can be accessed by many prospective scholarship providers, colleges, employers and the military - you do not want to jeopardize any future opportunities.
Work Permits
The Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division has developed a new online work permit application tool that is available to the parents of minors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet, smartphone, or similar device.
The application is live now. A parent can access the site using these instructions. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, a paper copy of the permit will be directly mailed to the employer.

Happy Quarter 4!
Parents of 2024-2025 seniors: There will be a College 101 presentation in the theater on April 17, 2024, beginning at 6:00 pm, for students and families. Attendance is strongly encouraged.
Parents of 2024-2025 juniors: Here is a link to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee ACT prep course. We have had a handful of Kohler students participate in this opportunity who have found it to be helpful and insightful. There are a lot of different dates and options available.
A representative from UWGB will be at Kohler during Advisory on April 18 assisting any students interested in enrolling in AP Language, AP Literature, AP Calculus or Pre-Calculus for Dual Enrollment in the 2024-2025 school year. A formal email will be sent out with further information the week of April 8.
We are in the home stretch of the 2023-2024 school year. Please continue to check in with your student and encourage them to finish out the year strong.
News From Mrs. O'Connor - MS Counselor
Happy Spring Middle School Families. Spring is a busy time. Students often get overwhelmed with the responsibility of school, spring sports & activities, and Forward Testing.
If your student starts to feel the pressure and stress that comes along with the end of the year do not hesitate to reach out to me or have your student come and see me. I can talk with them about their challenges and stressors, work with them to create end of the year goals, and give them coping skills when anxiety rises.
6th, 7th, and 8th graders are using Xello, an online program that helps students build their skills, knowledge, and plans to be future-ready by engaging in Academic and Career Planning (ACP).
Lessons in Xello take place once a month during students’ Advisory. You can take a tour by clicking Xello to find out more about the online program.
All my best wishes for a beautiful Spring.

ATHLETICS and ACTIVITIES "SKOOP" from Mr. Sprenger
The spring season is officially here! As Wisconsin springs tend to be, we were greeted with the first week of competition with a mix of snow, cold weather, and a lot of rain. Hopefully, mother nature has that out of her system now, and we will have no more further postponements of our spring season as there will be a lot of great things happening for our activities and athletics.
🙌 Shout-Outs
Baseball off to a Great Start
The baseball team was finally able to play the first games on the new turf field. The atmosphere was full of excitement from the players, and spectators as they watched a game at the new field. Mother Nature provided two great days to play baseball and the KC baseball team won their first two games! It should be an exciting season for the team.
Softball - Are you interested in joining?
Kohler co-ops with Sheboygan Falls for softball. This year Sheboygan falls is doing a JV only season, and the coach is looking for more softball players from Kohler to participate. This would be a great opportunity for anyone of any skill level to try the game of softball!
Please see the message from the coach below:
Do you want to have fun and learn a new game? Come join the Sheboygan Falls softball team!
Hi, I’m Sam Bailey, the new Sheboygan Falls softball coach. I’ve played softball my whole life and pitched in college, breaking multiple records along the way. Throughout my time on the field, I’ve also ran pitching lessons, coached players of all ages, and attended multiple Division 1 college softball camps picking up skills and coaching techniques. All this has led me to coaching the athletes this year at Sheboygan Falls.
This season, we are learning a lot and working to build a successful program by getting a little better every day. The players are improving quickly and are starting to learn how to make some pretty awesome plays in the game. I asked them at practice the other day what people should know about the experience of being a part of this team and they said, ‘We laugh a lot.’ I’m so excited for this season and know we are going to have a lot of fun while also creating a future for kids growing up who wish to join an outstanding program some day.
The only problem? We’re low on athletes. If you have any interest in learning the game for the first time or jumping back into a sport you may have played growing up, you have a spot on this team waiting for you! We’re 100% inclusive to all athletes eligible to join a female sport, even if you’ve never played. The current team is awesome and works every day to support each other.
If you’ve never played a sport before and are wondering why I want you to come join us, that’s simple. I love this game and I love creating a community where people can come together, learn skills (softball mechanics, communication, thinking on your feet, information retention, studying situations in real time), and most importantly: Have fun while doing it. I can’t begin to describe the life skills I’ve learned throughout my time being an athlete. In my everyday life, I’m incredibly grateful for all the lessons I learned on the field. I hope I can also pass some of those on to you.
Right now, we are right at the beginning of the games section of the season. We will play about 10 games this season between now and mid-May and practice every weekday. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays we practice from 3:30-6:00 and on Wednesdays we practice from around 4:00-6:30. That being said, if you are interested in joining and can’t make all those practices or times, please still reach out! We would love to have you and are more than willing to accommodate players in any way we can. We are all about learning and growing this year, and that includes flexibility!
If you are interested (or just have questions!), please email me at sbailey@sheboyganfalls.k12.wi.us. I hope to meet some of you soon.
Tennis and Soccer
Boys tennis and girls soccer still have not played a game this season due to the weather, but the teams are working hard, and will play their first games this week. We wish them well!
Track off to a Fast Start
The track and field team has competed in two track meets this year so far. In both meets, the team has performed very well.
In the last meet at Mishicot, the boys finished in first and the girls finished in second. Maggie Behler broke the school record 3200 meter time with an 11:47.65. Breaking Shannon O’Leary’s 11:57.47.
The team hosts a conference track meet on Thursday April 11th and hopes to continue their great start to the season.
Math Team
Congratulations to Daniel Walter and Claire Brotz for being a UW-Madison Math Competition finalist!
Both of these students competed against hundreds of students across the state, and were picked as one of the few finalists because of their high scores! Great work, and thanks to Mrs. Karoliussen for coaching them on the math team.
