NO SCHOOL - Friday, January 20th - Records Day
A message from the Principal - Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
It was a very short week, but a lot has happened! Many students have started their winter testing in MAP and Accadience. This will continue next week, so make sure your child is well-rested each day!
Our teachers on Car Rider Duty have a request....If picking your child up from school, please leave your yellow name placard in your window so that the teachers can see which child is supposed to go in which car. When you pull up, they will be able to call out for your child if they are not there. Without the names, it is nearly impossible. (Although I may know you all, the teachers on duty rotate and they do not!) So please help us expedite your time in line by leaving your yellow card in sight until your child is loaded in your car!
It's expected to be more seasonally chilly and snowy next week, so be sure your child is dressed warmly for outdoor recess. Students will go to recess when the "feels like" temperature is 20 degrees or higher. Coats, hats, and gloves are a MUST! Snowpants and boots are optional but also allow your child more options at recess. Be sure the shoes that your child wears are shoes that he or she can easily put on themselves.
Remember, there is no school tomorrow! It is the end of the semester and teachers are working on all of the end of the semester requirements.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Bookman

Students can share what they have to celebrate by filling out the slip and turning it into the Celebration Box in the office. Mrs. Bookman will choose a few "Celebrations" to share at our Celebration Assemblies that we have quarterly. Examples could be, meeting a goal (inside or outside of school), a sports team or club celebration, helping/volunteering in the community, or learning something new! We want to celebrate you!
Counselor's Corner - A Note From Miss Livers
Anxiety, there are many different things the parents and guardians can do to help their child when they are feeling anxious. Your student is not alone, childhood anxiety has been becoming more common with over 4.4 million children from ages 3-17 being diagnosed with anxiety. Here are some things you can do to support your child when they are feeling anxious:
· Remind your child that their feelings are valid and okay. Give them time and space to share how they feel without judgment.
· Set a time each day/week to talk about their worries.
· Help your child focus on what they can control.
Help your child develop ways to cope with and manage their anxiety, such as:
· Deep breathing
· Talking to you or another adult
· Journaling or drawing
· Focusing on what they can control
· Using positive self-talk
· Exercising

Birthday Treats
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently came out with guidelines and a list of healthy foods that schools are being asked to serve in place of cookies, candy, and other less healthy foods. Schools are encouraged to follow these guidelines, not only with food being sold but with any food being brought into the school. You are strongly encouraged to send in healthy snacks for birthday treats and/or holiday parties when requested.
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Student Medications
If you have medications that you need to have at school for your child, DO NOT send them to school with your child on the bus. Please bring them to school. The office is open from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Please call the school if you have questions.
Substitutes Needed
Field Local Schools will be hiring for classified substitute positions in the following areas for the 2022-23 school year: Playground Monitor, Educational Aide, Cafeteria Worker, Secretarial, Custodial, Bus Aide, and Bus Drivers. A current BCI & FBI background check is needed before applying for a subbing position. An application can be found at www.fieldlocalschools.org, departments, employment, forms (at bottom of page). You may print off the application ahead of time and bring with you to apply in the Superintendent’s Office located at Field High School, door #5. Please email Bev Bable at beverly.bable@fieldlocalschools.org for an appointment to apply.
