Haskin's Vision Statement: "At Haskin We Are "Learning Today, Shaping Tomorrow!"
I hope that you will have an opportunity to enjoy some of the beautiful autumn weather that will be here soon! It is a time to enjoy the spectacular colors, wonderful smells, and great tastes of taffy apples and spiced tea, I love it!
The children have been busy in their classrooms and have settled into the routines and expectations of school. They are doing a wonderful job! The smiles, energy, and sounds of learning have brought the building back to life and are what education is all about!
It is important that we work together, especially in these times, in order to help your child succeed in school. We are all navigating new territory and want to make this a positive experience for all. There will be bumps, growing pains, and learning curves along the way for everyone. As long as we communicate, show each other understanding and grace, and work together, we will navigate the uncharted waters much more easily. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns. They are working hard for your children.
All of the new procedures and protocols have been going smoothly, thanks to the joint efforts of all involved! Self-certification slips have been being filled out, students have learned all of the routines, and they are enjoying being back. We will be monitoring attendance, even on remote days, and will be working with families to support them in your efforts. Completion of remote learning activities is a critical and necessary piece of your student’s education this year and we appreciate your support. We know it is different and challenging, but use the time as an opportunity to foster a love of learning in your child, and for you to strengthen relationships and communication. We appreciate the efforts and energy being put into this! Thank you!
Google Classroom (3rd grade), Seesaw (Kdg.-2nd grade), and MyTSFamily (Pre-K) have been challenging, but beneficial, platforms for everyone to learn. Teachers and parents have been EXTREMELY patient and diligent in learning, problem solving, and utilizing these essential tools, along with the use of the Chromebooks. THANK YOU! I guarantee it will become easier, the more familiar we become with them.
We are working hard at scheduling activities like school pictures and will keep you updated as we get events on the calendar. The companies have been creative in their efforts in working with schools and have everyone’s health and safety as the priority.
Again, it has been a great start and thank you for all of your support!

2020 U.S. Census Information
If you have not completed your census reporting, it’s not too late. The 2020 U.S. Census self-response deadline has been extended to September 30, 2020. The census is a count of all people living in the United States and takes place every 10 years. For the first time, one can respond online.
The census is important because it helps decide how much federal money our schools will receive over the next 10 years, and how much money our state will receive for parks, neighborhood improvements, public health, transportation, and many other programs and services.

Self-Certification
Thank you to all our families for a great start with the new daily self-certification process. Please continue to discuss with your child how they are feeling before sending them to school.
Health Plans
Health plans for certain medical conditions (ex: asthma, diabetes, seizures, food allergies, etc.) need to be updated every school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school nurse. REMINDER: Students who require an inhaler at school should also have a spacer/chamber available to be used with the inhaler.
Medication Reminder
Any student requiring medication during the school day needs to have a completed school medication form on file in the office. This includes all prescription, over the counter, inhalers, and emergency/rescue type medications. Forms can be found on the district website or you may contact the school nurse.
Eye Examination Reminder
All Kindergarteners and any student attending school in Illinois for the first time are required to submit a State of Illinois Eye Exam or Waiver by October 15, 2020. Walmart and Target Vision Centers are able to provide the exam for Kid Care eligible students. If you have any questions regarding this requirement, you may contact the School Nurse at 815-786-8812.
Out of state transfer in students are also required to have a complete eye exam upon first entry per Illinois law.

Special Highlight:
***I am very impressed with how students are responding to the new guidelines in P.E. as well as maintaining the social distance and adhering to the mask guidelines. Thank you parents for all the effort in keeping students active at home during this unprecedented time.
The kindergarteners have been busy learning about the Fall season. They have read several books, as well as participated in leaf and apple activities both in class and at home on their remote learning days. The students made crowns to celebrate the beginning of Fall. Here are students in Mrs. Schmitt’s class showing off their new crowns!
Book Rover Visits Second Grade!
Second graders recently filled their book baggies with good-fit books from Haskin’s Book Rover. With the help of Ms. VanKampen and Mrs. Sartori, each first and second grader was able to select three books from the rover for independent classroom reading. We hope everyone enjoys the books!
