FROM the PRINCIPAL...
Dear Westbrook Families,
Welcome back to school! We hope you all had a fantastic spring break. Before the break, Westbrook had a special honor! We presented at the school board meeting on March 21st. This year's theme was empathy, and our presentation showed how kindness is everywhere at Westbrook. We shared stories like our staff building bikes for families and first graders creating "Westbrook Sweet Shops" to spread joy. There was even a heartwarming performance by Mrs. Grossmayer's class that used song and dance to show empathy in action. The whole night was a celebration of what makes a Westbrook student so great.
Thank you to families who have taken the time to send a Warm Westbrook Word of Encouragement to our staff using the link below. Many teachers commented on how the parentsโ encouragement made their day, and I have seen words of encouragement proudly displayed on teachers' desks. Your support means so much!
The Westbrook PTO is excited to offer Kona Ice to all Westbrook students on Wednesday, May 22nd. Please complete this Kona Ice Permission Form to indicate if your child can participate. Nutritional information and ingredients can be found at this link. The form must be completed by May 5th.
Friday, April 19th we will have half-day attendance for students throughout the District. Only first-grade students will attend from 9:20 AM to 12:20 PM at Westbrook. Please note the different dismissal times for our bussers and walkers. First-grade students will not need to bring lunch on half days. Our Kidsโ Corner program will only be available to first-grade students from 7:00 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. Please inform your daycare providers of this variance in the schedule. Circle of Friends and Kindergarten students will NOT attend school on Friday, April 19th.

Solar Eclipse Information
As you may know from the news (news link), there will be a solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. Westbrook has ordered safety glasses that will enable afternoon kindergarten and first-grade students to view the eclipse outdoors safely. This interactive map also helps show what the sun will look like at different times. Afternoon K/1 students will be provided background information about the eclipse and instructions on safely using protective glasses before teachers take their students outside to view the eclipse between 2:10 - 2:20 PM. Students will promptly return to the building as soon as they have viewed the eclipse.
If you do not want your child to go outside on Monday, April 8th, to view the eclipse, please complete the below opt-out form by Sunday, April 7th. If you complete the form below, I will note your request and ensure your child can view a solar eclipse video with peers who also opt-out.
