Mr. Glover's Weekly Update
Good afternoon BMMS Raiders Families!!
I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday. 6th grade families, I know for many of you, today is a day of preparation for you and your child as tomorrow morning we will be sending of most of the 6th grade class to Camp Cuyamaca!! I cannot wait to see our student off for what promises to be a very exciting week of exploration in our outdoor education experience. Families, please make sure that you have checked your list to make sure all last-minute items are accounted for. In addition, it is highly recommended that all your child's belongings be labeled with their name.
Additionally, please review the notes below for more information about our onboarding process for tomorrow, including morning drop off of your child and their luggage. And an extra “Thank you” everyone that has signed up to assist with the loading and unloading of luggage tomorrow and Friday. By the way, there is still room if you are able to assist with the luggage, specifically on Friday afternoon with the unloading (Please look for the sign-up link in the 6th grade camp message below). For all of our students that are participating in “Campus Camp”, be prepared for what will be an eventful week of learning as well.
As a reminder, please remind your child that during both events, student behavior expectations are still in place during school trips. We want our students to exhibit all of the foundational characteristics we would have in place on campus while they are on these off-campus experiences.
Again, we are so excited to be able to provide these wonderful experiences to all of our 6th grade students. Thank you all for assisting in what will be a great week of learning and an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Celebrations for the Month of March
This month BMMS will be honoring and celebrating three groups during March.
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Women's History Month
There will be lessons throughout the campus for students to participate in as part of the celebrations for the duration of the month.
8th Grade Transition & 6th Grade Camp Information
8th Graders Transition to High School Information
Greetings Families of 8th Grade Students,
High School is on the horizon, and we are excited to support your 8th Grade Raider as they begin the next step in their educational journey!
We want to make you aware of some upcoming events and resources that will assist you and your student with this transition.
On Friday, March 8th, Counselors from all PUSD High Schools will visit BMMS to share information with all 8th graders. Students will be divided into classroom-size groups to hear their high school’s presentation. The presentation will explain how to select and enter course requests for 9th grade, high school graduation and college prep requirements as well as other general high school information.
As part of the presentation, students will receive a hard copy of their Course Request Form (CRF) and directions for how to enter their course requests into their Synergy account. Deadlines vary by high school, but in general, students’ course requests for 9th grade should be entered into their Synergy account during the month of March.

What do students do on Monday morning, March 4th?
All 6th grade students will report to their first period class on March 4th @ 8am.
6th grade students not attending camp are expected to be at school. They will participate in our Campus Camp, which will have various activities throughout the week. Permission slips for the off-campus activities were given to students last week. Please make sure they have turned the permission slip into the front office.
Luggage Loading/Unloading Volunteers needed
We also need help with loading and unloading the luggage at BMMS. Here is the link to sign-up if you are available to help on Monday morning 3/4 or Friday afternoon, 3/8.
Letter to your child while at 6th Grade Camp
Letters to Camp: If you would like to write a letter to your child while they are at camp, it is recommended that you mail the letter(s) prior to the camp departure date. The camp address is: Cuyamaca Outdoor School, 12561 Highway 79, Descanso, CA 91916.
A member of our Admin. will be visiting camp on March 5th. If you would like to send a letter to your child while they are at camp, please make sure you drop it off at the office by Monday, March 4th before 3 p.m.
Return from Camp 3/8
Students attending camp Cuyamaca will return on Friday, 3/8. Estimated time of arrival is anywhere between 12:30pm-1:30pm. A Connect-Ed message will be sent when the busses have left camp to give you a better idea of the specific time students will return. Students will need to be picked up as soon as they return from camp. We ask that you gather their belongings (hence, how labeling all items will be helpful; their items are not necessarily loaded together on the return), pick-up medication that was sent to camp (if applicable), and any projects that may have done while at camp.
Sibling Check-Out: If you wish to check-out a sibling, once your 6th grader has returned from camp, please call our attendance hotline PRIOR to Friday, so we can prearrange to have your child out of the class to leave campus. The attendance hotline number is 858-484-1300 ext. 3806. The hotline is available 24/7.
7th Grade Academy Families
As we are getting closer to the end of the school year, we are wanting to give you all an update on the status of the Academy for the 2024-25 school year. We are currently finalizing a message to you all and will have a communication to share with you all sometime this week. In this communication, we will provide information on the status of the Academy and what, if any, fundraising goals and timeline will be in place. Please be on the lookout for this message that you will receive via email.
Black Student Summit - Student Selection
I wanted to thank all of you that registered for your child to participate in the SDCOE “Our Voice, Our Power, Our Future: Excellence In Motion” - BLACK STUDENT SUMMIT on Thursday, April 18th, 2024. Please check your email to check if your child has been selected to attend this event. There will be additional information about the event as well as a permission slip that will need to be completed and returned to hold your child’s spot for the trip. Please return these items to the school prior to the listed deadline.
Families, please continue to be on the lookout for similar opportunities for students throughout the school year. Thank you for your continued collaboration and support.
Save the Date! Light The Night Fundraiser is Coming!
Families, our school has teamed up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light the Night starting on March 11th, to teach our students about kindness, bravery and how working together for one common goal will help both children and adults in their fight against cancer.
The money we raise will help blood cancer patients right in our community by funding research, providing free information, financial and support services, and advocates for blood cancer patients by seeking access to quality, affordable, coordinated care. Specifically, LLS is leading a collaboration to launch a global precision medicine clinical trial to fundamentally change how pediatric cancers are treated. Visit LightTheNight.org, find our school, and join your classroom team to get started raising money online! In order to help develop goal setting, self-motivation and organizational skills, your student will earn a Light the Night t-shirt when they raise $100 or more.
Thank you, families, for your support of our Light the Night and be on the lookout for more information soon!
